hi hello
dear shameless (and all fandom tbh) fic writers
i am begging you to stop writing fics about characters having a mental illness they don’t specifically have in the show especially if you do not have that specific mental illness. i have come across a series of fics written about mickey having borderline personality disorder (something i have a diagnosis for), where the author has stated they don’t have, nor know anyone with BPD. i understand having headcanons for a character, but please please please at least do your research before you post. i am so tired of seeing fics being posted about characters having some type of mental illness where the author clearly doesn’t know anything about said mental illness.
i understand writing fics with ian’s bipolar, as it’s fairly predominant in the show, so there’s something to go off of. but writing a character with a MI with know prior knowledge of said MI is honestly (in my own, personal opinion) a little offensive. if you are wanting to write a fic where someone has a mental illness that you do not have experience with, at least have the courtesy of trying to talk to someone that does have that mental illness.
now, i’m not explicitly saying don’t write it, period. i’m simply asking that you make the effort to research preferably with someone who has that diagnosis. the articles on the internet are informative, but it doesn’t really relay an actual experience.
tl;dr - think before you write/post.

i'm finally watching the second season of the mandalorian and the fact they hired a Deaf actor to play the tusken raider AND consulted with him to create the tusken sign language makes me so happy
i was like wait... i know those signs
hi i had a job interview today that i thought went well but will probably not get so please
send me asks/gif requests <3
okay i’m piggybacking off of the ask that @sickness-health-all-that-shit just got re: cam’s being bodyshamed
i truly don’t understand why people are doing this sort of thing (especially now? because i thought we were done with any type of bodyshaming). not to mention, what happened to everyone saying we shouldn’t be ashamed of gaining weight over this pandemic, yet we throw it back on actors for not staying in perfect shape? is it because for the majority of the show, cam was in “perfect shape”, and now that he doesn’t have a perfectly defined 6-pack, he’s “overweight”? actors are human, first and foremost. they, nor anyone, should be getting ridiculed for natural weight fluctuation. personally (not that my opinion should matter) i think he looks great! healthy, even. so for the love of fuck, stop trying to police how peoples’ bodies should look in your perspective.
not me, listening to tobacco sunburst on my flight to new york and staring out the window, pretending i'm cg mickey
