In this shot, you can most clearly see the credit chips that Anakin hands Shmi. Oddly they're labeled as Republic credit chips in both the Expanded Visual Dictionary (pg 80), Visual Encyclopedia (pg 105), and the Complete Visual Dictionary (pg 78).
I point this out as odd because Watto tells Qui-Gon in his junkyard that "Republic credits are no good out here". Legends states that Qui-Gon sold the podracer to Sebulba, so perhaps being the big podracing star that he was, he had more Republic credits than local currency?
