#Repost from @flaviamarquesart with @regram.app ... "You can’t decide something’s minor detail if it concerns me." ... I really enjoyed how "Shoeburn and the Ill-Fiting Necklace" fooled me, in a good way. At first it took me a while to get into it. But by the fourth chapter or so the story becomes more fast-paced, and the metaphors become quirkier too. Those clever (and often surreal) digressions were one of my favorite things on this book so I was quite pleased with this development. My favorite thing about this book, though, is probably the narrator's voice. Shoe doesn't simply assume that he's smarter or more capable than the other characters, and he reacts according to his age, something that has become rare on this genre, so I found that quite refreshing! I also liked how the father/son relationship was portrayed. Many books on this genre show the young protagonist being unsupervised without any parental figures (don't take me wrong, I'm usually ok with that trope and some of my favorite books include it) but I really enjoyed that we get to see a complex and intriguing father and son dinamic here. And the ending totally caught me off guard! One aspect I didn't enjoy much is that since the story is set in a specific time frame, I would have loved to see a bit more of that reflecting on the settings and descriptions in general. But since this is the first installment on a series I hope we get more of that kind of description in the future. Overall it was a fun read and I can't wait to see what surprises await on the next book! #bookreview #bookish #shoeburnruffet #bookaddict #bookstagram #reading
