As a way to develop my skill as a street photographer I've been working on approaching strangers and asking to take their portrait. . . I also shoot candid photos. However, I feel there's a special energy that emerges when you engage with someone you don't know, and they trust you enough to capture them, digitally speaking. You also get to know a little about the subject, and see how much alike you may be, despite what differences may/may not be evident. . . This portrait is from 2016 and is one of my earliest attempts at shooting strangers. This dapper couple is from Australia, and we're at the Oculus in lower Manhattan. . . I hadn't developed my current practice of getting people's names. I did give them my business card, so they could request a print if they wanted. Sadly, I never heard from them. I was wondering around the art museums for a school project during the spring, but brought my camera with me since why not. I told myself that I would ask atleast one person for their photograpgh since despite being shy I often regret (and still am guilty of this) when I see a cool shot and an interesting person and let the moment past when all it takes are a few words to erase all the nerves and regret.
