Guess who was well enough to getaway for a few days...ME. It was bit cold and rainy in the mountains, but I tolerated all pretty good. Which is evident by the smile.

One day getaway
Longing for a short getaway from the stressful weeks of assignments was what had driven me and my friend to a spontaneous plan of a one day escape. It was simple and yet quite an impact it had for both of us. My friend and I agreed the day was worthwhile for both of us.
It started off by the morning around 10.30 AM, we drove to the Penang Cat Studio & Spa, in Bayan Baru near the SPICE Arena area. It took around 10 minutes and the location was situated at The One Terrace Plus Shop, can easily be found through the navigation app Waze.
The cat studio is where you can visit and play with the cats! The fluffball friends are all very friendly with the new people that came in through the door, never shying away from affections. However, during our visit, the studio was undergoing some renovation. The staffs explained they had to move some cages to the front which might made us uncomfortable with all the smells due to the litter boxes. Since we were there already, we decided to just give it a go, not letting any chance to meet the friendly felines to waste. It was quite uncomfortable with all the smell but we believe it will get better once the renovation is over.
There were a lot of breeds of cats, especially the Maine Coon, Persian, Sphynx and Ragdoll. Some of the cats were also mixed breed. We had a lot of playing with them, they would come all over you and shower you with their playfulness and purrs (and sometimes furs too). Wearing black color clothing is not recommended due to the furs of the cats. But they do prepared a roller to clean away the furs.
There are some rules that you need to follow in order to not make the cats uncomfortable. Cats are very sensitive to a lot of things. Some of the rule are you are not allowed to manhandle the cats, disturb them while sleeping or eating and not to pull their tails or limbs.
The prices per visit is RM9 per adult and RM5 per child. Students got a discount available only on weekdays, RM5 per person. The owner was very nice to us she decided to give us student prices even though it was on weekend!
They are closed on Monday and open at other day at 10 AM. For Friday, they open for 24 hours. The studio also sell their own cat themed merchandise if you are ever interested in buying these cute items.
After the cat studio, we decided to drive to SPICE Canopy, just beside the area where the cat studio was situated (less than 10 minute if walking). We had lunch at a contemporary Japanese restaurant, Sushi Brito. It was different from the typical sushi restaurants settings. It was comfortable but the only defect was there was no toilet available that we had to go out to look for one. The food was also affordable and tasty, suitable for a great lunch. I would recommend this place if you would like to try a different style of fusion Japanese food. They served sushi in cups, burrito sushi and also burgers with green tea buns and rice burgers. Greatly recommended!
My friend and I decided to stop by the Black Whale, one of the famous bubble tea shop that opened its new branch recently at D’piazza Mall. Joining the bubble tea craze, we tried their milk matcha with added bubble. The bubble tea was great, with their popular menu of cheese tea, brown sugar and green tea, it also comes with nice packaging which is rare for bubble tea vendors to provide. The interior of the shop was full of modern vibes, with whites and grey marbles pattern, accentuated by sparkles of gold here and there, looking exclusive, making it one of the best Instagrammable spot in Penang. There’s also 2nd level of seating open for bubble tea lover to enjoy their drinks while hanging out. A cozy space to spend quality time with friends.
Though it was short, it was nevertheless a perfect getaway for both of us, driving around Bayan Baru, relaxing our mind and sharing fun memories making new feline friends and tasting good food, before facing the stress with a more positive mindset. A short getaway is very recommended, to take your mind off work for a while, looking for something new to discover and at the same time releases stressful thoughts behind, relaxing the tense physically and mentally. So plan yours and spend it however you like it 😊
