The moonlit wind had completely escaped her mind and now her skin lifted in goosebumps and the swift blowing pulled dark strands from her up-do, merciless in its assaults of her bare shoulders. That, and the tiny prickles of water that came from the pouring of a stone maidens vase behind her, made her shiver.
Se tilted her head up to gaze longingly at the moon, to listen to the rustling of the hedge maze she had walked through as a child, to feel the heavy weight of the glimmering ring on her finger. Her wedding vows were on the lips not long before, and here she was wishing she could take it back just to stay in her home a little longer. Even this far away she could hear the music from the banquet hall, loud and boisterous voices sang along in drunken glee but they were barely a whisper here. One of the voices separated from the rest calling out to someone, and cursing in long strings.
She hoped the voice didn't find her. It did.
"Come ON it wasn't tha- oh hello," the figure of a tall skinny young man rounded the corner and spotted her, the muddled expression on his face lifting ,she sighed, it could be worse. "What are you doing here?" he was dressed in red and shining gold accented tunic and an overly long and heavy-looking cape to match, a sword ,purely for ceremonial purposes, hung from his hip. His raven hair, almost blue in the moonlight, scattered as another gust of wind sweat through the leafy walls surrounding them both.
She hugs herself against the cold, no matter how thick her silver lined wedding gown was it didn't do anything for her bare skin. "I could ask you the same thing, wandering around the maze looking for. Who?"
He was walking closer to her, boots crunching on gravel and dirt, "Looking for someone I offended by accident," He said the last part louder hoping such person would hear him, "And I'm not the one who got married to a far off prince or King I should say. I'm also not the one not spending time with my newly found husband. Speak your mind cousin." He slumped into the seat next to her.
She took a deep breath safe in the knowledge that if she couldn't trust his there was no one she could trust, "It is so very far away isn't it, I'm just here to make sure I remember all of this for as long as possible so when I- If i come back I'll still know my way around."
"That's depressing," He unclipped the heavy cape from his shoulders and wrapped it around hers, " I know you well and above everything that I know about you I KNOW that you could never forget anything, If they were going to rebuild my Dads castle on it's ashen ruins you would know where every stone went, and you've only been there once, Nothing short of black magic could make you forget this place. Also he's probably looking for you, your King, hes a nice guy, good face and he seems pretty nice, you didn't see him before you came it but he was just as worried about what he would find as you were, very easy to read that one, now that's he's caught a good, pretty, girl she disappears on him. That's also depressing." He was exaggerating but it still made her smile hiding it behind the muffling fabric of his cape, It was warm.
"What about you? What happened to you runaway lover? A him I assume." He grins at this. Then he falters and his brows lower over this crimson eyes.
"Yes, him, uh, well I stared at a line of foreign princes and princesses a second too long and he saw me and well, It went down from there. It's cute though, when his face turns all pink. He ran into the maze and he might actually be lost now that I think about it."
"You should probably-"
"Yeah I'll go deal with that." He stood and waved back at her as he walked away. Frowning and internally preparing for the upcoming confrontation.
"Your cape." She moved to take if off.
"Keep it or you'll freeze to death, give it back when we see each other later, before you leave." He didn't stop walking as he talked and his words got quieter the farther he walked until he was almost gone.
"Thank you," she called out to him. He smiled at her
She could hear two people arguing not long after.
She was still here, warmer and calmer but here non the less here.
She walked back later no less assured by her future but more confident that she could take what came her way.
It was on that day, with a cigarette in one hand, and an idea about what life should be in the other that I decided to change. I decided to change everything I wanted, everything that makes me special, and everything people predicted would happen to me. "But what if they don't want to change their prediction? What if no matter how hard you try to make things different they still see you as the boy from school who can only accomplish but so much in one life time?" He asks a good question. Well to that and them I say, "fuck you...and nothing more."
She was standing there, facing him. She didn't understand why is he so serious. But those few words that are filled with cold pain, shot like a bullet into her heart. It's like in chemistry-add into the heart a glass of pain, a cup of sadness, one bowl of depression, two cups of misery and a glass of tears. And what do you get? A huge B O O M. My heart exploded.
