Vincent - Tim Burton - Short 1982
Just came across this. Haven't seen it in an eon, in fact can't recall if I saw just stills in a book or the whole animation before, no matter. I loved watching it just now. My search on YT was in fact for the song Vincent - Don McLean, a painting song. My last post stated I rashly decided to paint my living room this week. Should I decide that again two weeks before Christmas, when I'm doing the dinner for a number of people, could you kindly ask me..."Do you have a hole in your head or something!?" Not only have I been ill most of the week (though not enough to remain skulking bed-bound) I have continued doing all the other pre Christmas stuff, like shopping to no great avail, voluntary stuff, erm..drinking, all when run down. Only to come home to inhale noxious paint fumes and agitate my already well developed Rhinovirus. Only two presents out of the twenty odd presents bought so far. Yes, "Do you have a hole in your head or something!?", has been rolling round my head in a non-stop loop over the past few days, but hooray painting now done. So step through the cold wintry door and shake your snow laden boots off 'Christmas day stress'. Hope you are a better companion than 'shit it's Christmas day in two weeks, my poor hangover, god I feel like someone has inflated my head like a balloon and blown sawdust down my oesophagus. Is this paint or poison on my brush?'. I moan in jest (now!), looking forward to seeing all my loved ones over the next week or so, always preferred Christmas day to NYE. Lesson from this week, you are not superhuman. Cider and wood paint fumes don't mix. As much as you like doing things for yourself, wait! Or in future pay someone else!
So, no painting song as intended but a wonderful animation by Tim Burton. I love stop motion animation. Also Beetlejuice was always one of my favourite films as a youth and it is evident from this short where the genesis for the creative direction came from. Most of all I'm posting, just because I like it.
May you all enjoy the pre Christmas shenanigans with people you love and care for. Even people you just like, or are foisted upon you, in the awkward moment you are standing at the party drinks counter with no one you know nor want to talk to, but have to make polite conversation with.
As usual, much love, goodwill, and there can never be enough love. x
