Shovlhed - Flower Punk

One of may favourite things about seeing Nomeansno in Vancouver during the 1980's (other than, actually seeing Nomeansno, natch) was the fact that they would usually bring over another cool Victoria band with them when they came.  Because of this I was exposed to a number of great bands, most of whom I would also become a fan of.  At the top of that list were, 64 Funny Cars, The Showbusiness Giants (frontman Tom Holliston would later join NMN when Andy Kerr left the band), Bum and Shovlhed.

Amongst those bands, Shovlhed was the most musically comparible to Nomeansno... except that their songs dwelt slightly less upon alienation and instead of being driven by the bass line, their music was driven by the guitar playing.  Said guitar player, Scott Henderson (aka Scott Hendersomething) is easily one of my favourite all time guitar players... and he has also done stellar duty in behind the recording console at Sea of Shit Studios, where he has produced a good chunk of the best music to come out of Victoria.

Flower Punk is a track from Frank Zappa's snidely mean-spirited, anti-hippie (and best, IMHO) album, We're Only in it For the Money, and it appears on Shovlhed's snidely mean-spirited, anti-everything (and only) album, Stove Boy Serves Daily Special / Proud as a Moose.
