ShowerRadio was a University Second Year Radio Design Project. Shower Radio is a device that dispenses your shampoo, conditioner and body wash automatically over a set time, allowing the user to shower quickly during a morning routine, with the added enjoyable novelty of an imaginative design and of course, listening to your favorite station. Inspired by the franticness of the morning routine and the creative and imaginative personality of his user, James Williams has created what may seem a novelty radio to you and I but to his user, is a solution to her rushed, hectic morning routine. Once in her shower, the user turns the dial which starts the timer, the user must finish her shower in 10 minutes to get on with the rest of her morning routine. As the dial turns it dispenses her shampoo, conditioner and body was in 3 minute intervals, the user can see from the coloured dial and arrow when the next liquid will be produced. Bathroom taps are used as dials for volume and tuning for her radio. Once the timer ends, the user leaves the shower. The design is outlandish yet subtle, in addition to its colours, which reflect this. James has created a system that helps with the user’s morning routine, and produced design aesthetics that match his user’s imaginative, creative and childish personality.
