to be completely honest, will graham isn’t really paying attention to what garret is doing at that moment. he’s hardly paying the other man any attention at all. since the disappearance of the minnesota shrike, everyone at quantico has been on edge, including jack crawford. however, that doesn’t stop jack from sending will to work on other cases. 

will is currently standing in front of his kitchen table, eyeing several grotesque looking crime scene photos, when he hears footsteps. he ignores them. when they get right to him, he manages to say, “I’m busy.”

this may as well be a dismissal, which is clearly not taken well. sharp inhale of breath as the hand grasps his belt loops, and then head snaps to attention when will is pulled. mouth flies open, eyes flashing with several emotions: surprise, desire, annoyance. he glances at the fingers still laced through the loops and then back up again. 

his eyes scan garret jacob hobbs’ face, never meeting his gaze. tongue pokes out to wet his lips. “what do you want?”

abigail hobbs had to be one of her favourite patients, truth be told, from the very first time she met her, there was somthing about the young girl that made her feel like she was very protective over her. but the truth was, it didn’t start out all the smooth----she she found with most of her teenage patients, abigail wanted nothing to do with her. in fact, their first couple of sessions was mostly just alana talking and abigail sitting there with her arms crossed over her chest, rolling her eyes at every little thing the good doctor said. regardless of how the sessions were going, her father kept bringing her back, because he knew that there were things she needed to talk about.

                                                         alana knew that too.

it took a few sessions, but eventually abigail started warming up and opening up to alana-----thank god because alana was truly running out of things to say about herself that weren’t weird or crossing some kind of line, as much as she was open with her patients, she did like to keep some things in her life private. and today’s session was the best they’d had yet. alana walked her to the door, greeted by her father garett jacob hobbs. 

‘ great session abigail, i’ll see you next week. ’ she grins as the young girl walks towards her father’s vehicle.

‘ she’s making great progress @shrikehunt​ ‘ alana tells him with a smile. ‘ it might be a slow journey with her, but she’s starting to open up more and more every time ’ alana beams with pride, almost to an embarrassing level. ‘ i----i just thought you might want to know that. ’

THERE HE IS. there he is again. graham winces at the sound of his voice and keeps his back to the area it had come from. he'd love to say this could be blamed on the whiskey on his breath, but will knows better. he's seen him sober before, too.

he’d been seeing hobbs fairly regularly, in fact, since the fateful day in the minnesota shrike’s kitchen. 

"I'm not AFRAID of anything," he says. he wishes it were true. will slowly, oh so slowly, turns around to see where the words had come from. what he sees makes him feel sick. "least of all you."

graham freezes when the hands come forward, adjusting his tie. it is his first day back in the classroom since that fiasco at minnesota. since the shrike escaped the fbi’s clutches. since will graham began harboring the fugitive. 

he stands stock still, staring at a space on garret’s chest. “I’m going to have to give my lecture on you,” he mutters, more to himself than to hobbs.

warmth of a head on his shoulder brings him to the present. he blinks: once, twice, thrice, in slow fashion. then he turns his gaze to study the man who has brought him out of his thoughts. his head slowly comes down and lays on top of garret’s.

as alana lay there, her heart beat strong within the cage she called her chest. it wasn’t that she hadn’t wanted to be there----------------in fact, with every fiber of her being, this felt right. she felt safe. comfortable, even. but in the back of her mind she couldn’t stop thinking what would abigail think ?  it was a terrible, terrible thing to think, consider in that moment her limbs were intertwined with those of her father’s. 

the truth of it all was that there was a twinge of guilt that was eating away at her. she didn’t want abigail to think that alana had some form of ulterior motive planned while they had their sessions, like she was just planning on stepping in in place of her mother-----------------that was the farthest thing from the truth. but having worked with so many teens, and so many broken families, she knew that there were a multitude of scenarios that could roll through her head. this being one of them. really, the issue was that alana didn’t want to lose abigail while finding her happiness.

she lets out a deep sigh of relief as she she hears @shrikehunt​ let out a soft spoken phrase  ❝  i like you here like this.  in my bed.  ❞  and just like that everything that was bothering her had melted away.

a smile painted across her features, a kiss presses to his chin. ‘ it feels safe. ’ she laughs a little bit. ‘ familiar, even, oddly enough. ’ she looks at him, blue eyes wide like that of a doe’s.  ‘ not that ------ ’ she scrunches her nose. ‘ not that i thought i’d ever wind up here. ’ she laughs again, cheeks flushing pink, a little embarrassed. ‘ but i’m very glad i did. ’ she tells him, fingers running over his chest gently

will was mostly unaware when he had begun to cry. when he came home that evening, he’d felt different. he’d immediately seemed to be distant from hobbs, from the dogs, from everything. every new case opens a new door for will graham to step inside; each time, he seems to step back out looking wearier, sicker. he seems as if he’s lost a piece of him from inside, and carried something back out. 

three times tonight, he has reassured garret that he is fine. on the third attempt, he breaks.

he wished the tears hadn’t come. from a young age, will was taught to cry as seldom as possible and to do so privately. tonight, standing in his little living room, he feels vulnerable. his head ducks in shame. 

the hand pulls him in and will goes willingly. he stumbles forward without looking up and rests his head there against garret’s shoulder. his own shake from exertion. whatever he’s seen today has done a number on him, and the weeping fills the room’s quiet. his arms curl upwards against himself. he trembles.
