Wow you can do that with hairspray. Do you think art fixative like for charcoal would work? Like you can watercolor over it? With no smudges?
Yeah, I thought I’d give it a try and it worked perfectly! I partially used very soft pencils too (like for the hair), so I thought there was no way it wouldn’t smudge. After spraying the drawing with a few coats of hairspray though, watercoloring over it didn’t have any effect on the pencil drawing, and the hairspray didn’t interfere with the watercolors in any way either.
I don’t usually use art fixative because hairspray is cheaper and works just as well in my opinion, so I’m not sure if it would be any different from the hairspray. I’d advise you to make a few test pieces on a piece of scrap paper just to make sure though, that’s what I did with the hairspray!
