"You and me both." Shoko sighs, exhaling with a cloud of ashen smoke. She was supposed to have quit smoking, but, well... With everyone they've lost, she needs something to calm her nerves, to help her numb this constant grief. It's a strange feeling, for the two of them to be the only ones left of their class - Haibara, Geto, Nanami, and now Gojo was locked away somewhere... They were all gone. Maybe it was foolish of her to believe that anyone who fought on the front lines like they did could last in this world, but still, given how strong they all were... She couldn't help being shocked by each and every loss. Somehow, deep down, she'd truly believed they'd make it, that if anything happened, she'd be able to save them... The shock had worn off now, though, and all she's left with is this emptiness - the hollow places in her life that were once filled by the presence of her friends. At least she's not the only one - even if Erina did run off with Geto after he went off the deep end, she should understand exactly how she feels now. "I don't know how we keep going, but I guess that's the only thing left to do at this point... At least we're not alone, huh?"

The scent of the medicine hit Tanjiro first; the herbal smell being strong enough to pull him out of the accidental doze between checkups. He couldn't help the nose scrunch, the scent being rather potent even through the blocked nose. Sniffing and shaking his head to clear blurry vision, he was quick to sit up.

"Thank you..." He murmured first, voice gravelly as calloused hands took the cup, downing the medicine in one go and making a bit of a face. He couldn't help it; but he knew the medicine would mean he could go back out training and on missions faster. It was his own fault, continuing on to the Butterfly Mansion despite the torrential downpour. It was bound to end up this way. "Sorry for the trouble. Thanks for taking care of me." Bringing up a fist to cough into it; cringing as gunk shifted in his chest. Gross. "How long until I can go back to training and missions, Shinobu-san...?"

Burgundy eyes snap to her; guilt immediately swimming inside his irises as Tanjiro realised that he'd been caught out of bed. But he really was feeling better....despite the fever that raged and his stumbling steps after standing up. But he was getting antsy just lying there, and wanted to do something...!

"But Nezuko!" Tanjiro couldn't help the words that might have been more like a whine, but that he'd ever admit that. Under her piercing gaze, he got back towards his bed on shaky legs; heat all but radiating from his forehead all over again.

"I felt better, and I just wanted to get up and do something..." He protested quietly, sitting on the edge rather than lying down, not wanting to completely give in just yet. "I've been lying here and sleeping for too long."

For a fraction of a second, Gojo froze. imperceptible. Then his face turns back into his usual aloof expression. Eyes hidden behind a blindfold as usual.

What was he supposed to say? 'of course, I'm coming back!'. What if he didn't?Then he would have told her a lie... and it might have been the last thing he ever said to her. Not that he was plaaning on dying -- oh hell no! He was the strongest ater all.

So, what he says instead is; " I'll pop in when I can." Light. Calm. Reassuring. " When I have time in between missions."

Megumi’s gaze flicked slightly to the side at Kaori’s words, as if he hadn’t fully intended to be seen that clearly. For a moment, he didn’t respond—just exhaled quietly through his nose, the kind of tired breath that said he’d already noticed the same thing himself earlier in the mirror.

“…Yeah,” he finally admitted, voice low and even, though there was a faint roughness to it that hinted at lack of rest. He adjusted his stance a little, one hand slipping into his pocket while the other loosened at his side, fingers briefly flexing as if shaking off stiffness. “I’m aware.”

His expression stayed mostly neutral, but there was a subtle heaviness under his eyes that he didn’t bother hiding. Not dramatic—just worn in a way that suggested long hours and not enough recovery. He glanced toward Kaori again, this time actually meeting her eyes for a second longer than before.

“It’s not serious, I’ll be fine…” he added after a beat, as if cutting off any concern before it could grow. His tone was calm, controlled—typical of him—but not entirely dismissive. More like he didn’t want it to become a bigger topic than it needed to be.

A faint pause followed. Megumi shifted his weight slightly, shoulders relaxing just a fraction as the silence settled between them. Then, almost begrudgingly, he continued, “Just haven’t been sleeping much lately.”

He looked away again, scanning the area briefly as if checking for something irrelevant, then returned his attention forward. “If you’re trying to tell me to rest, I already know that too,” he said, quieter this time. Not annoyed—just acknowledging the obvious in a way that suggested he’d already been thinking about it longer than he wanted to admit.

Megumi pauses mid-step when he hears her voice, the words catching him just enough to make him stop without turning immediately. For a moment, his gaze drifts to the side as if he’s weighing possibilities—what she might mean, whether it’s important, whether it’s something he needs to brace himself for. Then, with a small exhale through his nose, he turns fully toward her.

“…What is it?” he asks, his tone even, but not dismissive. His hands rest loosely at his sides, posture relaxed but alert in that subtle way he always carries himself. His eyes narrow slightly—not in suspicion, but in focus—as they settle on her face, reading her expression more than her words.

He takes a slow step closer, enough to show he’s actually listening, not just responding out of obligation. The faint rustle of his uniform is the only sound between them for a moment.

“If you’re going to say that, just show me,” he adds after a brief pause, voice lower now, more grounded. There’s a slight tilt of his head as he studies her, like he’s trying to anticipate what she’s about to reveal before she even does it.

“… and it better not be a surprise.” Megumi muttered dryly but not annoyed.
