            It isn’t that he’s tired, exactly, but that the shrine is the one place he can think without being interrupted. Yu is happy to rest his head against the stone as if he’s dozing. He’s been working on the quests she gives him, so the fox is willing to lay at his side and let him rest his hand on her warm body, but it’s not helping him much. 

     The fact remains that he’s done this before. Talking with Naoki at the camp trip, being on the receiving end of Naoto’s nasty glares. In a few weeks, the famed Detective Prince will join the ranks of Namatame’s victims, but there’s nothing Yu can do to prevent it. Fate has him on a tight path, he finds, and with no one else who notices anything off, all Yu can do is endure it. 

     “Na,” he starts, still staring at the stone pathway washed in the colours of the sunset. “Do you remember me? The one I was before.” He was better then; more earnest. Now he’s beginning to blur around the edges.

Yaps at him from the top of the shrine! Hey! She needs some help! The snow is too deep!

          “—Eh?” 

     He knows the snow is deep! That’s why he made the trek all the way out here to check on her! There’s even a lunchbox in his gloved hands all ready for her. Though Yu is pretty sure she’s capable of fending for herself, it never hurts to be certain, and to look out for the ones you care about.

    It takes a moment, but Yu understands. Glancing down at his feet (and his boots, already half-buried in the soft snow), he sees the problem. But how to solve it? There’s no one around to help, and somehow Yu thinks he’s not welcome to climb onto the shrine (not to mention that, with the snow, he might just slide right off again!). He’s never been one to back down from a challenge, though, let alone a challenge that involves helping a dear friend. 

     Setting the lunchbox down, Yu spreads his feet in the snow, steadying himself, and holds his arms out, palms hovering in the air a foot apart. “Jump!” He calls in his most encouraging voice, hoping that she trusts him more than he trusts himself. “It’s okay——I’ll catch you!”

Appears with a care basket of food

          “Oh!” It’s surprise at the fox’s sudden appearance before it gives way to surprise at having a fox bring him food. Perhaps he shouldn’t be so shocked at this point. No, really, there’s nothing strange about it at all. 

     A smile softens his lips, and Yusuke already seems to have gained ten pounds just by looking at the food she offers. “Well, thank you,” he says softly, “but I have nothing to give you in return.” He even slides his hands in his pockets to demonstrate, but ...

      “That’s right!” He pulls out something small, roundish, shiny, with a peculiar design on its flat side. It’s a bottle cap of a lesser-known beer. “I don’t think it’s Asahi,” he murmurs, showing it to her, “so I think it might be rare, though I admit I’m no expert on liquor. If you would allow me a moment to sketch the design, I can offer it to you in exchange for your food. Does that sound all right to you?”

Ok! I'm gonna try this one more time....

I am seriously going to try and save up enough gold (I think like 650g) so I can exchange it the 2,000 gems to get the silly Shrine Guardian mount skin. I hope I can do this.
