Pathetic.
It was the single word that echoed throughout Asuka's thoughts. To think that the Sibyl System dared to humiliate her in such a way, to grant her pity and making her seem weak. They had twisted her fate, forcing her to walk down a path of shame brought about by her decision to follow Sibyl's directions. She had been given so many choices, and she had simply picked the one that seemed most suitable - what was so wrong with that?
She should have been executed. When they had found her in that damned building, her Coefficient was far beyond recovery, hue so clouded that it could only be described as a murky black. With one eye mutilated and mental state on the brink of deterioration, the promising Inspector should have been discarded and forgotten properly. At least such actions would have been logical and merciful.
A long exhale dragged out from pressed lips. Fists clenched, she stood outside the Unit 1 office. Starting from that day, she would have to live as one of the dogs of society, the lowest of the low. After all, serving as a hound was only natural for any Enforcer, whether they had ever been the masters or not. Nails dug deep into the flesh of palms, eyebrows furrowing to leave deep creases as she stepped through the automatic sliding doors.
Much to her surprise - and relief - there was only a single other person in the room. Auburn hair and brown eyes, an overall slim but short build, childish posture - not much to fear, especially considering he was engrossed in a video game at the moment. An eyebrow raised as she hesitantly strode to the male's side, hands shoved firmly into the pockets of her red athletic jacket.
❝ So I suppose it's courtesy to ignore ignore the presence of another person? ❞
