Y/N was new to the team, coming in at the same time as rossi. she and rossi had met spencer and been completely befuddled by him. rossi had been somewhat freaked out by his ability to memorise his entire book and the recite it during the case.
he had also been frustrated at his constant factual rambling, just like the rest of the team. however, Y/N were amazed by his ability to retain information, the facts he spewed everyday seemed so insanely interesting to her, she looked forward to hearing them everyday, and couldn't understand why, outside of cases, the team wouldn't listen when he spoke so passionately.
the team had wrapped up a case and were flying home in the jet, where Y/N and JJ sat across from spencer while the two girls read over their files, and spencer over his.
Y/N couldn't help but sneak a glance at spencer, his eyes focused down at the file resting on his lap, his glasses sliding down his nose caused him to knock them back into place using the back of his hand, before itching the arch of his nose and returning his hand back to it's position crossed over his chest.
"hey, hey, hard-head. don't make me spank you when I get back." derek walked past on the phone, clearly talking to garcia.
"don't listen to him, garcia. he's all talk." spencer chuckled to himself before a loud THWACK was heard,
"J.J, Y/N he just hit me!"
"You boys behave or I will ground you both." JJ replied in a mockingly motherly tone before asking, "is that one of jonny mchale's books?"
"Yeah, it's, uh, it's called blue. It's about a girl who thinks she's a real human being, right? But it turns out she's a robot that was built by her uncle." spencer chuckled at the end of his sentence at the story, Y/N observed their conversation, watching how happy spencer got when he was able to share his interests with the team.
"so, it's Pinocchio." JJ questioned with a raised brow,
"yeah, it is like pinocchio, only, uh, set in a high school in outer space." JJ nodded before asking details about the case, causing Y/N to go back to writing in the files, summarising the case and detailing the unsub's behaviours.
"yeah it's sad.." she heard spencer respond to something JJ had said, and it was a sad case. A man was killing due to his fiancée vickey who had been murdered recently.
after that it was silent for a moment,
"hey, did you know that carlo lorenzini, the guy that wrote pinocchio, was said to be obsessed with the human nose?"
"wow," JJ mocked, attempting to get spencer to stop his rambling, although he didn't seem to catch on.
"as a matter of fact, pinocchio wasn't even the first characte-" he continued before JJ cut in, "interesting!" she enunciated with raised eyebrows before standing from her seat.
"coffee?" she asked spencer already moving to leave, not waiting for a response, "i'm all right. thank you, though, for asking."
"Y/N, you wanna come get coffee with me?" JJ turned in her step, head facing the girl so that JJ couldn't see her expression and the nod of her head as if to say, get out while you still can.
when Y/N declined JJ shook her head mockingly, "if you say so," she chuckled on her way out.
"spencer continue your story!" Y/N spoke with her full attention on him, causing a flustered red colour to paint the ends of his ears in nervousness.
"u-u, huh?" spencer hadn't really talked to the girl outside of the case, and he had thought she was rather pretty.
"only if you want to of course, but i would love to hear more about pinocchio and carlo lorenzini and all that!"
"oh, i don't mind, do you have a particular interest in old italian fables of animated marionettes?" spencer asked curiously,
"well, not that specifically, but i definitely like hearing your facts so go ahead!"
and from that day on every morning Y/N walks into the office, spencer is at his desk waiting for her arrival with a thousand burning facts just for her. He tried to be nonchalant about it, casually dropping in to talk with her about his latest obscure interests, when in reality he spence's every night researching books upon books, scouring the internet, for stories, statistics and facts he deems good enough for you.
even though it didn’t really matter how interesting or good his information is, anything spencer shares to Y/N has her responding with a large amount of questions, a shocked look, and very interesting conversations.
