Why is it not okay to use cute pronouns?
1) They are very difficult, if not impossible for people with learning disabilities, ESL speakers, or ASL-users. While this is not evidence in and of itself that they're bad, because many words are difficult for ESL speakers and the like to use, they are also superfluous.
2) They are grammatically unwieldy; we create many words, yes, but pronouns are a "closed group" of words. We have a very small amount of them; to ask even people whose mother language is English to so drastically change a part of our language is really, really self-centered.
3) Pronouns are not nicknames. They are used to easily replace a noun, and nounself pronouns are deliberately made to draw attention to themselves.
4) Pronouns, yes, reflect gender. 'He' reflects a male gender, 'she' female, 'they' is unknown or gender-neutral, 'sie' is gender-neutral, and 'it' is for objects and animals. For instance, 'bunself' is the first one that comes to mind. What gender is this meant to reflect? That you identify as rabbit-kin? Even leaving aside the issue of otherkinship's legitimacy, "rabbit" is not a gender.
5) They make a complete mockery of people who legitimately desire to be referred to neutrally. You know how the old standby hyperbolic argument is "What next, are people going to start identifying as robots and rabbits"? These things deligitimatizing the struggles of a very seriously misunderstood minority, when it's clear that YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO THIS. Sure, they're "cute", but did you really legitimately feel like you were being misgendered when you weren't being referred to as a rabbit in every sentence?
6) Being trans is not a fashion accessory. When you reduce pronouns to cute accessories, you reduce being trans to a game.
just laying in bed listening to the Howl’s Moving Castle OST wishing Faith didn’t have to leave.
Sitting in the car waiting for my parents to get done grocery shopping, listening to Tears For Fears. Can’t wait to see my baby today.
I seriously don’t need anyone else in my life besides my little flowers Faith, Lyndsie, Alexandria, and Hannah. I love you all.
so excited for tomorrow! Exploring/adventuring, abandoned houses, art, maybe stick and pokes, more art, and just fairy things.
