Thank you so much to Siarven for agreeing to be a guest on today’s post! They discuss the incredible worldbuilding in their WIP Dreams Shado
I am SO EXCITED to share this interview today because it includes one of my best friends on writeblr. @siarven was so gracious to agree to do this and I absolutely loved reading their answers. I read their dark epic fantasy book Dreams Shadow earlier this year and absolutely loved it. It has some of the most interesting, well-thought-out worldbuilding I have ever read, and getting to hear about all the behind the scenes was fascinating. I highly recommend checking out their blog/work! And if that wholehearted endorsement doesn't convince you... There Are Dragons 👀
Happy STS! :D How do your characters feel about reading, and what kind of books/xx do they read? :)
Books are a huge part of the F&F house. Gil and Adiran love pulpy detective books, Adiran also loves manga. Tybee has a private library of ancient faery lore and laws, which Rhia loves to raid.
Happy STS!! Since you mentioned dragons earlier, do you have any mystical/fantastical creatures in your WIP, like dragons, for example? ;D How do they influence the worldbuilding? Do people tell each other stories about them? Are they of any religious significance? :)
I do, in fact, have dragons! Unfortunately, the dragons don’t play hardly any role at all in my Arda’aman stories, but the effect dragons had on the world do shape the ending of The Alchemist’s Curse. Dragons were the first sentient species in Arda’aman (”in” not “on,” since the residents primarily see Arda’aman as a realm the live in rather than a planet they live on.), and they built vast, technologically advanced empires that, at their peaks, spanned the entire world. Eventually, those empires fell, their numbers dwindled, and in time they died out entirely. Lesser drakes still walk the earth, but true dragons are extinct.
Their worship, however, is not. Draconism, the modern word for the religion practiced in the eastern of the two most powerful empires, is still alive and well east of the Castrian Mounts and is even the official religion of Okarthia, the nation that rose from the ashes of said empire and the birthplace of Rino Moonfall, a human rumored to have draconic in his blood and co-star of The Alchemist’s Curse. More importantly, it’s the birthplace of Zosima Sau Hemet, a priestess of the Draconic god Chera and antagonist of The Alchemist’s Curse.
Chera is the head of the Draconic pantheon, father of dragons, inventor of gold, personification of the sun. It’s the inventor of gold bit that’s important to The Alchemist’s Curse, because Draconic law declares that only Chera can create gold.
Rino Moonfall is an alchemist. Alchemy is all about trying to create gold. Under Draconic law--and, therefore, Okarthian law--alchemy is forbidden. That isn’t a real problem for Rino, because he splits his time between Okarthia and Sylanta and, like all great alchemists, writes under a pseudonym. It is, however, a problem for Zosima Sau Hemet, because if the king discovers a priestess of Chera is also one of the founding figures of alchemy, she’ll be facing much more than just jail time.
Bloopity bloop bloop :)
Thank you for the bloops @siarven! Today’s all about Pavel.
He grows all of his own herbs when possible, because he believes it makes them better and allows them to be more effective when he uses them.
Many would say magic isn’t real, he’d disagree and say it is, but one must belief for it to work. His reasoning is in the years he didn’t believe, none worked for him, but when his belief started to come back, it seemed to start working again. Perhaps that is wishful thinking, but he is sticking to it.
His personal study of magics tie into his Paganism: green, crystal, and cooking
Send a bloop (or multiples!) and get as many facts!
Hii, first of all congrats on getting to so many followers! <3 I reeaaally love your moodboards/aesthetics so how could I say no to your giveaway?? :D My current WIP is "Like Dragons of Old" (tagged LDOO), that would be awesome <3 (unless I'm too late/you already have too many requests, of course!)
Don’t worry, the give away will last at least a few more days. To be honest, I’m not quite satisfied with the outcome, but I hope you like it anyway.
An update on Ava :) Far better than last time, still needs a lot of work of course but I think I’m on the right track :)
