Family Reunited

Stark knew he probably shouldn’t be drinking as much as he was. His hand shook a bit as he stared down at the tumbler of whiskey in his hand, the ice clinking quietly against the glass. He needed to stop...and yet, after everything he lost, he just couldn’t bring himself to do so.

One month. It had been one whole month since he and Terra and the rest of Team VALR had shown up at Haven, following a hunch that she might show up there. It had been a month since they’d met back up with Team RNJR, and accidentally ended up in that fight in the foyer of Haven Academy. And it had also been a month since--

Stark’s grip tightened on the glass, and a long crack traveled down the length of its surface. Grimacing, he set the glass down and shook his head.

...it had been a month since Cinder had died. He’d seen her, go down into that secret trap door with two other woman, then watched Yang rush after her--he’d been too busy trying to handle the raging Hazel to chase after her himself. In the end, only Yang returned. So, as far as he knew...she was gone.

Stark sighed and set a card of lien on the table. He should be over it by now, he shouldn’t be stewing in his grief and holding his team back. It was his fault they were even still here in Mistral--sure, they’d said they didn’t want to join Team RWBY on the quest, and it was a good idea to stay and finish their studies at Haven, but really it was because of him, and what a sorry sack he was. He really should be over it...

...but how do you get over losing the last of your family?

Frowning, Stark stood from his spot at the bar and pulled back on his jacket. It was raining outside, and for a moment he’d wished he’d brought an umbrella, before he simply sighed and popped up his collar and began to shoulder his way through the crowd of civilians and making his way back towards Haven Academy, where he and his team were staying.

He’d only made it about a block down from the bar, though, when he felt someone bump into him with their shoulder. He stumbled a bit, driven out of his thoughts, and turned to scowl over at the person he’d run into--

And found his voice caught in his throat.

Spark was absolutely miserable. He’d been hacking up a lung all morning and no matter how many cough drops or medicine he took it didn’t seem to help. After another coughing fit he looked up to see Levy standing in the doorway to his bedroom.

“Hey, sis...” he said, his voice very hoarse and strained.
