GALTx eNews: Help Our 15 Injured Reserve Hounds!

We are so thankful for all of our supporters who help us in so many ways all year long. We wish we could take a moment to just say thanks. But Giving Tuesday is coming up fast on November 29th and we have so far to go to secure all $20,000 in matching funds.

Currently, about a quarter of our hounds are on Injured Reserve recovering from disease or injury. For instance, recent arrivals Zeke, Emma, Ethan, and Elliot came to us after living the stray life at a landfill. Shortly thereafter, we also welcomed Snow, Blondie, Jeanie, and Palmer. All 8 of these hounds came to us with an assortment of injuries, infections, tick borne disease, heartworm and other health issues. The medical bills for the four landfill hounds came out to about $3,600. Snow, Jeanie, and Blondie were even more expensive with their care totaling $4,800. Little Palmer added another $800.

In October, we welcomed Robbie, who came to us from Dallas Animal Services with heartworm. His bill is over $800 already. Then, along came Sophia (pictured) and puppy Marco, both of which came to us with expensive broken legs. Sophia's care cost $4,800 and Marco's came to $3,900. Most recently we welcomed Sandy, who came to us much in need of surgery for mastitis. The cost for her care is $3,600. Lisa and Bernadette recently also needed surgery to remove masses. Lisa's care cost nearly $3,000 Bernadette's bill came out to $5,500. Add in Pumpkin, who has been in treatment for heartworm for some time with bills adding up to nearly $800, and that's 15 hounds requiring expensive veterinary care and additional foster resources all at the same time!

Even with our recent fundraisers, our bank account is running low from paying these bills (totaling over $31,000!) and the more routine costs to help our hounds get ready for forever homes. So, we really have to ask, please help these hounds and those that follow get well by giving for Giving Tuesday! Our matching funds of $20,000 will help your gift go twice as far and it is imperative that we don't leave a dime behind! So Chicken is doing better. She still doesn’t want to eat kibble, but she’s been eating chicken and rice and drinking plenty of water, and hasn’t thrown up again. However... she just had explosive diarrhea when I took her out so I guess we’re not as good as I thought 🤦‍♀️

The vet is coming to the kennel tomorrow to do physicals on puppies and give some vaccines to the big dogs who need it, so I’ll talk to her then. My boss doesn’t think this is any more than a stomach upset and I’m inclined to agree. Chicken has always been a sensitive dog. If I switch her food she usually gets diarrhea, so this may just be from eating the rice and chicken, who knows.

Been a nervous and hectic as hell day, my mother’s dog is in surgery right now to remove tumors from her mammary glands. Yeah, basically my mom’s dog has breast cancer. We’ve already been called once about possible complications, but have heard no news since. I’m slated to pick her in an hour and a half and right now I’m basically looking at this as; no news is good news. The surgery and meds cost is going to be nearly 2,000 dollars, right now it’s about 1,800 but they may add on more tonight. Obviously we don’t have 1,800 extra dollars sitting around, so we’re going to be making payments, hopefully everything will be paid off before any of our pets need to see a vet again. We already pay a couple hundred dollars a month for my dogs heart medications and can’t afford to lose our vets trust in us over an outstanding bill because without his meds, my dog will die. THE WHEEL OF FORTUNE . What are your character’s proudest successes?

ho boy marek’s proudest success?? probably that one (1) time he was able to beat wren in a hoverbike race because wren is flat out incredible at piloting. it’s hard to talk about marek’s successes because all of the ones he’d consider are small, and all of the major things he’s done has been “successful”, but out of a bitter necessity that makes him hate that he had to do them in the first place.

STAR ( reverse ) .  when has your character lost faith?

marek lost his faith a long, long time ago. as the original lunar knight, he lost it in the celestial goddess that created him and began to question the very reason for his existence. in his current incarnation, it’s interesting, because while marek regains memories from his time as the lunar knight of symphonia’s history, he was also raised in a catholic household. his conceptions of god, heaven, angels, and hell become interwoven with his lost faith in the goddess that created him, and he doesn’t abandon either of his faiths, but he loses both of them during the time when he returns to lupa only to find the galaxy still in the throes of war.
