my #1 hc for sick!five is that he absolutely hates even the idea of getting ill, like, in the apocalypse if he got sick it meant almost certain death for him and so he avoided it like the plague, raiding any pharmacy that was still even semi-standing, he took vitamin c pills every day (while they lasted), if he even kind of started to cough or feel congested, sudafed to the rescue, etc. bc he just couldn’t AFFORD to get sick. 

so i like to imagine that with all the mess and stress of avoiding not one but two fucking apocalypses in like what? the span of two weeks?! that by the end, once everything is back to (relative) normalcy that five has run himself so ragged he gets an awful fever.

but getting sick is such a fear of his that he chooses to ignore it, totally in denial-he’s just tired, he convinces himself. 

they’ve just saved the world (again) and maybe fixed the timeline at last, and all of the siblings are cheering and so relieved and joyous, they’re all hugging one another. 

five sits down, exhausted and aching all over, lets them celebrate-they deserve it, after all they’ve been through-and there’s a genuine smile tugging at his lips as he watches them. 

“get in here, old man!” diego calls him over when he realizes they’re one pipsqueak short in their little family huddle/hug. 

five waves him off. it’s not that he doesn’t want to. he’s pretty sure if he tries to get up he might collapse and never get back up. 

“you are so stubborn!” allison clicks her tongue and scoots out of the hug, intending to drag five over but the moment she grabs fives thin little wrist she gasps, “jesus five, you’re burning up!” she goes into mom mode instantly, leaning down to feel his forehead and frowning at the heat pouring off of him. 

he shrugs her hand off. “i’m fine.” he insists, even as his voice cracks. but of course no one believes him and he ends up laid out on the couch in the middle of the living room with a cold cloth draped over his forehead and all the cold medicine he could ever need. he’s too weak to contest being sick and just kinda lets it happen, figuring it’ll at least make everyone shut up about it, if nothing else. (also he won’t say it out loud but it is nice to finally be taken care of) 

and maybe it’s late in the evening, the lights are off and everyone is gathered in the living room eating ice cream out of the pint (passing it around the room) in their PJs, watching some sappy romcom. they’re all sitting around the couch five is still laid out on, half asleep and very fevery, on the carpeted floor, and maybe vanya gets up to make some popcorn in the kitchen and she’s closest to five, like, leaning right up against the couch near his head, and five catches sight of her standing up.

in his fevered state he panics and reaches out, grasping at the collar of her shirt desperately and vanya startles, like “woah, what’s wrong? you need some-” 

and five blurts out, “don’t leave me alone. i don’t wanna die alone. please.”

Umbrella Academy sickfic prompt 5

Five has spent a lot of time taking care of himself, about 34 years or so. He isn’t really used to the idea of other people trying to help him, except maybe for Delores, but she has limited mobility. That’s why when he gets sick in his 13 year old body for the first time since he came back, it’s a weird experience to have his siblings hovering/coddling him. Though, he supposes that it’s not entirely unpleasant.
