Kinda feeling like I'm dying today with the lurgey 😷 So today Louie and I have been watching Catfish (Not the kinda fish he was expecting fo sure), eating soup, ice lollies and napping. Sick days are Always Better with a cat. 😊🐱🐺 #SickSquad #catsofinstagram
the local abc news had a segment on CHIKV cases being spotted in long island and made a way bigger deal of it than necessary like bruh
first off there are really really few cases that have been contracted in the continental us (i checked the cdc tables), they were all gotten by people who had gone to regions outside and/or puerto rico where there were a whole bunch of native cases, also florida where i hear there were a couple locally contracted cases but not manyso yeah, invest in a good can of raid, dump any standing water, normal mosquito precautions, but i dont think people should go out of their way just yetif youve got it make sure none of those big stripey bastards bite you and besides, worst case scenario, if it got all the way north itd be kinda self limiting bc of the mosquito die-offs in winter because it gets Cold As Balls up here jfs
there is a show on about zombies on h2 and it does raise some good points, like the reason we find zombies scary is the indiscriminate mindless destruction of plagues/the dismantling of society as a whole due to pandemics, and used the black plague as a comparison, which i think is a pretty smart analogy
but, as was so elegantly stated by neil degrasse tyson, the zombie plague everyones buzzing about will never ever happen, so there's that

i love u so much! ill check the tag when i stop lagging but if u remember do u have anything about aluminium in it in there, also the vax against 3 viruses (or 3 vaxes at once?) you give babies bc shes agains tthat specific one!
oh, the MMR vaccine (measles/mumps/rubella)! thats actually what most of the controversy is about, so there's a lot on it! have you asked her the specific reasons why she's against it?
i've heard more concerns about thimerosal and formaldehyde than aluminum, but i'll do some research on that for you!
i'm seeing news stories on measles every ~4 days now, and before a few months ago i'd never heard a word about it, especially not on the five o clock news, and its honestly really worrying to me because i KNOW there are going to be fatalities from it, people are going to actually die from something that doesnt have to be this bad
my job is going to be about understanding these agents and ultimately helping people, you know, not die
i read somewhere that out of all the cases, only 17% were vaccinated against it, which i'll admit is expected, not a lot of things are going to have a 100% or even 90-95% success rate, including the MMR vaccine, and medicines dont always work for everyone.
that also means that the rest of the cases were from unvaccinated people. a good number of those might have been people who couldn't get the MMR vaccine in the first place, but a good number might also be from people who willfully left their kids unvaccinated or went unvaccinated themselves
remember: just because you yourself are hale and hearty doesn't mean that everyone else is. please think of immunocompromised people and people who can't get shots. if you aren't vaccinated, get vaccinated now, this shit is becoming a problem and i don't want to see this happening because of a growing culture that is increasingly technology resistan, hard-headed, and unwilling to listen to doctors and people whose jobs are to help
since many of you arent ever going to have to deal with yellow fever or typhoid, let's talk about something more widely known.
tetanus.
let's talk about tetanus.
first and foremost, tetanus fucking sucks. you don't hear a lot about how much it fucking sucks because most everyone is vaccinated for it and not a lot of people get it, but let me be the one to tell you how much it fucking sucks.
tetanus, first and foremost, causes severe muscle spasms. it hurts, and it hurts a whole damn lot. in fact, you can seriously die in four days from generalized tetanus, which is pretty horrifying.
also, tetany (muscle contractions mentioned above), can cause muscle tears and fractures. also, you might piss and/or shit yourself. this is probably sounding less and less fun by the moment.
add to that the fact that you MIGHT need to get a tracheotomy if it's severe enough to really fuck you up. they will have to cut a hole in your throat and put a tube in there and hook you up to a breathing machine for three to four weeks. trachs are one of the most decidedly unfun things ever.
i'm pretty sure a bunch of antivaxxers would change their tunes if they knew how bad half the shit you get vaccinated for can really be.
