        Elizabeth manages to get a small reprieve from the fighting, finally turning to look at him.  “ How do we get out of this? ”

        “ I must admit, Captain Rackham, that you’re a great deal more intelligent and capable than most of the men I find myself in the company of. ”  There’s an appreciative glint in her eyes as she turns to face him.  Jack is the sort of man who could easily find themselves being written off, underestimated.  She knows plenty of what that’s like, being a woman in a world so keen on the prevalence of leadership and power amongst men.  “ I suspect most people take that for granted. ”

this is why he hates boats. it’s a lot harder to plan an escape when surrounding you is water at all angles. at least the pirates don’t seem to be the kind into making slaves of their captives. no, he just had to deal with men rifling through his doublet and touching his pistols. if he lost them he’d be very upset. the pistols had been a gift from the musketeer who had taught aramis to shoot. now some pirate was going to break them through simple misunderstanding of the care they should be afforded.

he speaks in french since spanish could make things worse. it’s hard to gauge with the political climate how it is if he would cause himself more issues by revealing his second language. “ excusez moi, monsieur. but could i trouble you for some bread and water? or perhaps the reason i have been captured in this manner. the kidnapping of a musketeer is treated as treason within france. ”

     The red draped Captain was firm with her words yet keeping friendly in tone.  It wasn’t terribly uncommon of Port Florid to harbor fellow pirates seeking rest and replenishment away from the talons of the law.  But while she had no qualms with these new visitors or their sharp-sidburned captain yet, there was no harm in greeting newcomers personally, as to instill the notion that guests should behave themselves. 

     “ As I stated, you’re more than welcome to stay for purpose of rest or trade   but-  Should there be any other business that brings ya to me humble Crimson Isle? ”

        “ Far be it from me to dictate how you dress... ” The pause that followed indicated that Jack was about to do just that, propped up against the headboard of the bed, wearing one of Rackham’s many neck ties over his loose-fitted shirt. He hadn’t realised that swapping clothes with someone who had just an eclectic taste as he did, but with a significantly larger wardrobe, could prove such a fun exercise. Certain that he’d got the other man’s attention, Jack whipped out -- as if from nowhere -- his famous pair of sunglasses and put them on. “ But you really don’t think these are too much, love? ”

        “I believe you’re rather familiar with Captain Flint.”  Her words were thoughtful, carefully weighed.  Though she had permitted the crew of the Walrus to remain at Shipwreck Cove, and the ship that had followed soon after, Elizabeth knew better than to put her trust into any of them.  Still, from what little she had heard and observed of Jack Rackham, he appeared to be slightly more level-headed than the rest of the lot.  She knew what the people in her own circle thought of Flint, knew what Flint’s own men thought of him, but she longed for an opinion outside of them.  An opinion that might settle her doubts about her decisions.  “ From what I’ve heard, you’ve had some dealings in the past. ”  She glanced in Rackham’s direction, the question clear enough in her gaze.  What can you tell me about him?
