Well, the statue stands for freedom, so I’m assuming the foreigner is talking about freedoms we don’t give people in our country, like illegal immigrants or whatever. But things like that are outweighed by the basic human freedoms we all have.

Because compared to other countries, America protects the citiziens and has a higher standart of living overall. Human Rights actually exist and are followed most of the time. Not everyones dream of a perfect life may come true but it's definitely possible to achieve an adequate way of living.
