Our next highlight is focused on @thesidewalkproject.tally This local project is lead by @k_ear_stin of @fhritally427 This team has done one major #SidewalkProject in Tallahassee, is well established as a community with art, music, donations and harm reduction as well as connected to indoor services. They made themselves available during the storms in Tallahassee to take people in the houseless community to shelters and continue their work in the harm reduction community. We look forward to seeing them do continued work in Tallahassee with the unhoused and drug users. We’re big fans of the Tally fam! Love this man. He’s been with Sidewalk in Phoenix, Skid Row, San Diego and about to get down in Venice. He has given us serious time at the Gladys Park Mural with his art, including taking time to teach the kids from Texas who came to our wall. With Sidewalk it’s about showing up and bringing yourself and your talents to the community. This is Jonathan Brookes. He is a writer. He plays chess. He lives on the street in Skid Row in the San Julian Park area of Los Angeles. When I met him he was painting with us at the last #SidewalkProject with @disclosurefest He was painting a picture of a chess board on cardboard. We talked for a long time. He told me his ideas on society, economics, art and a better way for marginalized communities. He let me film him speaking for part of our conversation. We will put it up on our YouTube channel. Some of the most powerful conversations we have, we have on the street. Connection is one of the most important aspects of #TheSidewalkProject It’s not about what we’re giving “to people in need”. Growing up, I stayed up late and would watch public access television all the time and one day after another fantastic episode of the Wally George Show, I took a chance on what quickly became some of my favorite programming: Punkorama TV. I was already obsessed with music but this show and “The Show,” by @joe_sib helped me to get deeper and deeper into punk music than I ever knew I would. I don’t really look like it anymore, but the spirit of punk rock, @fat_wreck @sideonedummy @epitaphrecords @hellcatrecords and the Better Youth Organization lives on and guides within me. Thank you so much to @j_moncrief, @harvelleslb and the @the_sidewalk_project for letting me host your Wreck The Halls Charity Event and for giving me an opportunity to connect with and be inspired by so many people that created the very scene I looked up to so many years ago...
