It’s a fairy tale(ish) au that was originally written for the ‘Over the river and through the woods’ prompt... but then wound up smooshing into the ‘Deepest depths’ prompt (and the ‘Sleeping with the fishes’ prompt huhuhu) so I decided to shoot for the free day instead.
Also- here’s the playlist I listened to while writing this monster, if you’re looking for some mood music.
Cheers!

Day 1: Blessings
Zelda's eyes bore into the top of Sidon's head fin with an intensity to rival that of a guardian. She didn't know how to let him down gently, and Goddess above knows how many others have been in his position. The Prince of the Zora had made this two day journey and asked for a private council with Zelda just like all the others had. He was here to request her blessing in an attempted courtship of her personal knight, Master Link. Ever since Calamity had fallen, hoards of men and women alike had swarmed the castle in an attempt to catch the eye of her knight and best friend. This one would be the worst, she thinks. From a political perspective, a marriage between the Prince and the Hylian champion would be nothing if not beneficial in the formation of an alliance between the nations. If looking at it from the perspective of Link’s friend, Sidon was by far her favorite. Here was a man that would treat her friend right -- give him the love and happiness that he undoubtedly deserved, and yet, she'd seen this before. She'd seen that hope and the way faces lit up when she told them to give it their best shot, and she'd seen the anger that marred those same faces when they were inevitability rejected. Link was so blasé about it too. The way he said no, delivering it like a finishing blow, as opposed to the refusal for a date that it was. Zelda just wanted Link to be happy. Also settled down because this boy was taking literal decades off of her life, but that's beside the point. When she asked him why he refused all the offers his answer was said so matter-of-factly that it froze her in place when he signed it to her. “None of these people love me. They love my appearance or the idea of a Champion. Everyone loves the ‘Hero of Hyrule,’ but no one loves Link.” She pointedly chose to drop the subject after that. He had a valid point though. Growing up a princess, she knew all too well about shallow intentions of others in relation to her. Too many children, when she was younger, that craved friendship for perks. Too many Royal families trying to decide her husband (or wife, as she has recently decided) for her. It only got worse when she came of age. Before Calamity, she had tried so hard to see the good in everyone that her naivety led to Link beating off nefarious characters with sticks. She bit back her smile while thinking back to the times that were more literal than figurative. Sidon’s head has risen from its bow before her. Despite the comical height difference between the races, he still knelt below her. It was customary after all. But this is the first time that when the suitor’s head raised and their eyes met her skeptical ones, she was greeted with a powerful, all-consuming love. It shook her so violently that her warning sputtered into nothing on her tongue before it fell on usually deaf ears. Sidon didn't look at her with boredom, or expectation, or Goddess forbid, lust. He looked at her with hope that she would allow him the attempt to court her friend - as if that alone would be enough to satisfy him. His feelings and intentions were as pure and stubborn as the man before her, and Zelda refused to sit idly and let Link destroy Sidon, even if he didn't really mean to. “Be warned, Prince Sidon,” Zelda declared, in such a way that attempted to convey her as a friend, as opposed to a gatekeeper, “Many have kneeled the same way before me as you have. While I do pray for your success, I fear your attempts will be made in vain. Just,” she sighed lightly, dropping the formality, “don't get your hopes up, okay?” She wasn't expecting Sidon to rise with his tail wagging frantically behind him and a sun bright smile on his face. “So you're giving me permission?” “I am?” If his hope was unexpected, then Zelda was sure as shit floored when Sidon turned back toward the hallway he came from with his arms outstretched. She was equally confused when Link himself burst down said hallway and straight into Sidon's expecting arms. Their embrace was followed with a sweet, relieved kiss that was just as needy. “Thank you, Queen Zelda! I am honored to have this opportunity,” Sidon beamed. The look on Link's face when she’d found his eyes again was just as sweet.
Sidlink Week Day 2: Colors
If you were to ask Sidon’s favorite color was, he say Link is his favorite. Of course you would be confused by this, but to Sidon it was the honest truth. Link was too beautiful Sidon couldn’t pick one color of his mate; Link’s sunshine hair, his peach sweet skin, those ocean blue eyes, the little white marks that decorated Link’s skin and the red that would take over when Link was embarrassed or when they make love. All these colors were a part of Link and Sidon everything that was Link. And even though Link knew this, Sidon didn’t know Link’s.
It wasn’t that Sidon never asked, Link just wouldn’t answer the question.
“Link, what’s your favorite color?”
“I don’t know.” Link would always respond.
Sidon knew Link was simple, he liked simple things. But to not know what Link’s color threw Sidon into a loop. He wanted know everything about the man he loves. But he never pushed the subject, knowing Link wouldn’t like to be asked the same question more than once.
Sidon still pondered on the question, ‘What was Link’s favorite color?’
Sidon was sitting in his study, head lying on his desk. How was this one question bothering so? It was just a simple question that could have a simple answer. If only he knew the answer. He will ask Link again. He has to ask him again. He wanted to know so badly. Sidon stood up from his chair and marched out of his study. He goes on his search for his smaller love. He looks in the palace halls, the training grounds, shops and the waters that surround the domain but no Link. Sidon gives up on his search and decided to sit by the statue of his dearly beloved sister. Link would eventually come this way to the palace so why not wait for him?
The hours of the day past, Sidon continued to sit in the one spot. Passing zoras greet him, some of the guards would share a conversation him.
“Sire, how long have you been sitting there?” Bazz asked.
“Oh I suppose a few hours so far.” Sidon answered.
“But why?”
“I’ve been waiting for Link to pass through here because I couldn’t find him. I assumed he must have left the domain, so I will wait here.”
“Why are you so eager to greet him?” Bazz asked.
“I have to ask him something.”
“Well if you want to ask him something, there he is now.” Bazz said and pointed at the small Hylian that had just come into their sight.
“Link!” Sidon exclaimed, completely forgetting Bazz Sidon ran over to Link.
‘Hi Sidon.’ Link signed with a cheerful smile.
“Link,” Sidon said, “I have to ask you something.”
‘What is it Sidon?’ Link asked.
“What is your favorite color?” Sidon asked quickly, “I know you’ve answered this before but, it’s been driving me crazy not knowing. Please tell me!”
Link had to bite back the giggle he had in his throat. ‘Come with me.’
Link took Sidon’s hand and led him into the palace. They went up to their room and Link had Sidon sit on the bed,
‘Please wait here and I’ll be back.’ Link signed.
More waiting, really? With a sigh Sidon did what he asked to and waited as Link went into the bathroom. Minutes pass and as soon as Sidon heard the bathroom door open he stood. He saw Link dressed in the zora armor that was made by Mipha all those years ago, but instead of the navy blue that it once was, was now deep red.
“Link, how did,”
‘There’s this village not far that dyes armor and fabric any color you want.’ Link answered.
“Link, I,” Sidon is taken back at the how lovely Link looks in the newly colored armor.
‘This is my favorite.’ Link signed.
“What?” Sidon asked, dumb founded.
Link took Sidon’s hand again and directed him to the mirror that stood in the room.
‘It’s you,’ Link signed, “It’s the same color of your skin. I love you Sidon. You make feel safe, warm and loved. I want to always be reminded of that. So, I colored the armor to the same color as you, and Mipha.’
Sidon had tears in his eyes. He got on his knees and held Link closely to his chest.
“Thank you.” he whispered.
Link took Sidon cheeks his hand and kissed Sidon sweetly.
‘Thank you for loving me.’
