For a long time, I struggled to design Sierra and Cristine’s transformation outfits. It wasn’t until last year that I decided to look through my pinterest boards and start drawing some outfits ideas.

The first design ideas were to give Cristine this formal jazz recital themed outfit. And given that she played the clarinet, her attacks would be music based. However, I had no idea what I wanted her magic attacks to actually do. That and I wasn’t all that satisfied with the outfit. It needed more work and it needed to feel more detailed and badass. The outfit was formal but still too ordinary.

For Sierra, I had this idea of doing some kind of checkered designed jacket, shorts, and boots. I had these ideas about what the outfit would look like in my head but wasn’t satisfied when I started drawing these ideas on paper. It looked less ordinary than Cristine’s outfit but I just didn’t feel the striped shirt, checkered jacket, and shorts really went together. And I couldn’t help feeling that the boots needed a different design. It just needed a better outfit combination. It was also a struggle figuring out what Sierra’s attacks would be as well. I wanted to give her a gun with a creative design rather than just a shot gun and instead of bullets it could shoot something magical. The problem was, I don’t know much about guns at all and wouldn’t be able to draw one without a reference. That and I couldn’t figure what magical thing Sierra would be shooting the gun with. Something was missing.

Last night, I decided to give designing the transformation outfits another shot. I intended to make it slightly more Kpop outfit inspired. I then quickly noticed that it just wasn’t Cristine. She was a clarinet player in a marching band. And it became clear that going the more school marching band route with the designs was better fit.

Here is Cristine’s new design. My friend suggested that she needed a marching band hat so that was the first part of her outfit that I drew and realized she needed to look more like a band kid. In addition she needed a band uniform that was more detailed than her actual band uniform so that people can differentiate between the two. Just like before she has a magical clarinet which now has the power to erase memories and put people to sleep.

For Sierra, I decided to give her a marching band color guard inspired outfit. It has been the planned since the beginning to have Sierra eventually join the school color guard it made sense for the theme of her outfit. Though I may redesign the shoes to make them look more like real shoes someone in color guard would wear. Sierra’s name has Spanish and Irish origins and can be translated to “mountain”, “dark”, and “spear”. It seemed like a good idea to represent this with her transformation outfit. While decided not to design her outfit with mountains, I did add a spade design to her shirt and choker since a spade somewhat resembles a spear. Her attack is a color guard flag that can turn into a baton that attacks with fire.

I am still trying to figure out what Sierra and Cristine’s titles should be as super heroes so for now I am calling them Time Quest Warriors until I come up with a stronger name. I cannot wait to draw these designs in a digital form when I have the time.
