Quidditch Round Up: Pride of Portree, The Team to Beat?
The Pride of Portree are at it again! In the second game of the season, Ellie Stone has once again snatched the snitch, and not only has she done so, but she has managed to hold off until her teammates were able to bump up the score with 18 goals. This translated to another hefty 330 points, putting the Prides in the lead and tapping them as favourites for the competition. The Catapults have also managed to garner a sturdy lead over the rest of the pack, coming in at second after another win, and only 20 points behind the Prides. The Harpies, the Tornados, and the Wanderers round out the rest of the current top 5, though both teams lost their second matches. Wade Potter of the Tornados put on a particularly spectacular performance however, scoring the majority of his team's goals, despite the Harpies star Beaters, the fiery pair of Selina Skylar and Sierra Greingoth putting all of the Tornados in a whirl. New Harpies Seeker, Korinna Fletwock has snagged her second snitch of the season, while the newly established chaser trio, Laima Liepiņš, Isobel King, and Elizaveta Franco, might just be set to give those Wanderers' boys, who have held the top Chaser team spot for the last several seasons, a run for their money.
Wigtown are still in it, as usual at this point of the season it is difficult to estimate where any team may end up, but perhaps we are used to a higher standard of play from the Wanderers chasers, and so we expect more than what they are currently delivering. Wigtown's defense, however, is currently top notch, their newest Beater William Nyström seems to be just what the healer ordered as he put the Falcons tailfeathers in a bind, despite Falmouth ultimately winning the match thanks to a desperate and reckless snitch catch delivered by Alanna Keane.
The Magpies entry into the scoreboard after their first round bye was disappointing, with only two goals scored. Fischer is noticeably off-form, and Primeaux and Carmichael are not picking up her slack as a good chaser team needs to be able to do. It seems Primeaux’s love affair with Portree’s Keeper Lennon Kelly hasn’t helped him get one over on her on the pitch. Replacement seeker Andrew Sullivan was no match for Portree's Stone, and Magpies beaters, Cresswell and Botros spent most of the match keeping bludgers off Sullivan's back. If there is any team in the league that can turn things around however, the Magpies are likely it, so writing them off so early would be a mistake. Stay tuned.
