     “Misty is cool! She’s a lot of fun and there must be like something in the Silber genes that makes them so hot—but don’t tell Slightly I said that. He can’t know I think his sister is cute or he’ll actually kill me. I guess blood family is more important than chosen family after all. Even though we grew up together...” Nibs rolled his eyes, the idea making him a little annoyed in his drunken state even though he usually thought the sibling bond between his best friend and his younger sister was sweet. Maybe it was because he wanted an excuse to fool around with the flirtatious Misty, or because he was still hurting over his breakup...because he hadn’t been wanted by his birth family or any of the girls he’s given his fragile heart to in the past.

     “Misty is so sweet and silly! We get along like peas in a pod. If any of the girls could be my sister, I think she would be the best. Well, her and Rani! And maybe Tink, too. But Sillymist is just so fun to be around and I love hanging out with her.”

     He shouldn’t have come out tonight, not even a week after his breakup when he still felt like the stale gum stuck under a public bench. But there were free drinks, his friends were all here to watch out for him, and most importantly, he had already rented his tux. Nibs had to be grateful that he had people in his life who truly cared for him, but at this point he was ready to give up on falling in love ever again. He was still moping, indulging in his private pity party in the middle of a public event, but he would dance again when he was ready. “So, do I look as shitty as I feel?” he asked aloud in a depressed man’s attempt at humor.

“Do you tell her she’s the most beautiful girl you’ve ever seen?” Misty

     “You’re embarrassing me,” he said, rolling his eyes at the romantic teasing treatment he was being subjected to after telling his friends that he had officially asked Cami out—but even that couldn’t hide the smile on his face every time his girlfriend came up in conversation. Nibs would actually talk about her forever if he was allowed to, so it was dangerous for Misty to give him the reason to get started. “I don’t know how I got so lucky. I...I really hope this lasts.”
