God those silent scenes in Arcane are very clever.
The ones where you can see characters screaming and crying but you can’t hear it because they dub those scenes to the score instead. It’s like… it’s so quiet but somehow so deafening at the same time. It’s brilliant.
It makes me think of that one gif of a telephone line jumping rope and when it hits the ground, you can hear the thud. Your mind knows that something is missing so it fills in the blanks for you. I can’t find it but I think you guys know the gif I mean. Those scenes are like that gif.
They could have just left them completely silent and not involved any music. But they wanted to frame those scenes in a certain way and the music helps to direct the watcher to think about them in that certain way.
But everything else they do themselves. They can make the screams and cries as loud and pitched as they want.
You’ve got nothing but a visual cue to create the audio.
What if you’re blind? Then what? Does it still work? Of course if you’re completely deaf, it would work better.
The physical senses are clever things. They compensate for any information that the mind believes is missing.
And you wonder why I think reality in its entirety is mind-made. Clearly it’s possible if this stuff works.
I mean art/entertainment pretty much confirms it.
Arcane shows this through mental illness, magical tampering, and - as I said - these clever silent scenes.
Sensory deprivation can do some crazy creative shit.
