Looks like YOU should be there. The boy wrote and held it up for Edward to read, before adding a 'are you ok?' underneath it all.

“ yes, I am fine, ” Ed replied as his hand discreetly rubbed over the delicate bruising on his chest. thankfully, that was all he gotten but they still hurt like hell. Ed wasn't practically tolerant of pain but he avoided any sharp changes in his expression as he tested the sensitive of his skin in front of Martin. seeing Lee would be the last thing he would do right now. 

         “ just got into a small fight, you should see the other guy, ” Ed added with a small smile. Grundy had taken care of the rest but he left that part out. “ really, I am okay, Martin, Lee doesn't need to know. ”

Whenever Oswald has the opportunity of tucking Martin in for bed (or he feels the boy’s had a bad day what have you), he repeats his Mother’s mantra and goes on and on about how handsome and clever Martin is. How he’ll grow to be a great man and make something of himself.Oswald gets a little teary-eyed each time. 

Oswald is absolutely ride or die when it comes to Martin’s talents. Especially art. He showers the kid with expensive supplies and studies. Sets him up easels around the manor. Sketchbooks. Watercolor. Anything and everything. Several pieces have been framed and placed around the Manor. Complimenting them is a good way to earn a few brownie points with the birb.

It takes a grand amount of time before Oswald is comfortable enough to show Martin affection beyond shoulder pats and small gestures. But once he’s comfortable with it? He fusses over Martin like a Mama Hen. Ruffling his hair. Fixing his clothes. Returning hugs (though it still causes him to pause when it’s so sudden.) He doesn’t know much about being a father…but surely he gets points for trying. 

After Zsasz’s betrayal, there are very few people Oswald trusts to watch after Martin. His very existence in and around Gotham is meant to be a secret. Sophia in a coma or not. Martin is a weakness and he doesn’t want anyone using the boy to try and exploit him.

Ed and Ignatius are some of the only people he’ll ever ask to keep an eye on his charge.
