With its glowing glaciers and lilac skies, Iceland’s enchanting natural beauty is magnificently surreal.
Venturing to this magical island near the top of the globe, photographer Alex Westfall set out to capture what’s called the “silver hour," a time when the sun has just set over the horizon — a time when magic happens. In Iceland, this can be as early as 3 pm and as late as midnight.
“My photos are about the everyday moments that carry a dreamlike quality,” she says. From a serene cloud-covered town to a youth braving the country’s craggy slopes, Alex’s photos capture moments that are both peaceful and lively, dreamlike and wide awake.
