"Can you walk on your own?"

Sage eyes darted to the man who’d spoken. She hadn’t heard anyone approach, though she supposed that could be attributed to the ringing in her ears… Her mind was foggy, but she vaguely remembered some sort of explosion or backfire, and a piece of something knocking her flat to her back.
“Y-yes,” she replied, unsteadily pulling herself to her feet and almost immediately stumbling back into a wall. “Maybe.”
She had trouble focusing on his figure, however hard she squinted in her attempt to see him clearly. The more her mind cleared, the more a pain settled in. Reaching her hand to the side of her head, she pulled it back to find red coating her fingertips. It wasn’t anything bad enough to alarm her; just a small trickle, most likely a shallow cut from when the thing– whatever it was– had nailed her. Then she realized something; her hair had come loose from how she’d had it, no longer covering her pointed ears. Looking back to him with wide eyes expecting to see a human ready to point them out, she paused; surprised by what she’d seen instead. She could see him mostly clearly now, and it was evident that he wasn’t a human… But what he was, she didn’t know.
“…Wh-Who are you?” she asked, quickly replacing “what” with “who” mid-word.
