Hi, I'm not sure if my previous question was sent bc I was on mobile without having the tumblr app and it was really weird... Please ignore this if it worked. My question was what the kits of a tortie she-cat with little white (around 10%) and a gray/silver mackerel tabby tom with 40% white would look like. I'm not entirely sure if he's gray or silver, or if it makes a difference for the kits. Thank you!
I’ll go ahead and answer this here since you added on the silver question.
To tell the difference between silver and grey, look at the stripes! If the stripes are black, the cat is genetically black and thus a silver tabby. If the stripes are grey, the cat is grey. Now, they can be silver and grey, and to tell if that’s so you look at how much contrast there is between the stripes and background. If the background is nearly white, chances are they’re silver grey.
If the tom is grey than the kit possibilities are:
Brown tabby toms, Ginger tabby toms, Brown tabby females, and Tortie tabby female. Half will have less than 50% white on them, a fourth more than 50% white, and the final fourth none at all.
Silver tabby toms, Cameo tabby toms, Silver tabby females, and Silver tortie tabby female. Half will have less than 50% white on them, a fourth more than 50% white, and the final fourth none at all.
This is the same if the tom is Silver Grey. If the tom carries nonsilver, than possibilities from the grey cross are available.
