Born 1982 in London, England; lives in Berlin, Germany

Fujiwara’s works range from paintings and photographs to installations, films and sculptures. His early installations and narrative performances (2008-12) largely traced his own identity formation; through multi-part auto-fiction he restaged events and places associated with his conception, mythologising his origins as an artist. His work can be seen as a complex response and sometimes critique of the increasing cultural obsession with self-presentation that new technologies offered to his generation. In more recent works, Fujiwara has expanded his repertoire to encompass other people, historical and living, as well as cultural objects and artefacts that shape our notion of the individual in a hyper-capitalist, digital reality.
