Gift giving tip: when buying for people you aren’t close to (distant relations, people you work with, Christmas exchanges with large groups, secret gifts where you don’t know who will receive what you bought) you typically can’t go wrong with something “useful”
My boss likes to cook- bought him some high quality truffle oil (small bottle wasn’t too expensive).
Coworkers got food storage containers with pretty prints. All are the same size but they have different patterns based on which I thought they’d like more.
Friend’s boyfriend?- nice quality water bottle, simple blue and supposedly keeps things cold for 12hrs. Who doesn’t need to stay hydrated?
It’s not much (and maybe they secretly hate them) but I’ve seen every one of these people “use” the gift I bought them. And frankly there is some satisfaction in knowing that even if I can’t buy them the most memorable gift I can at least buy them the most usable gift.
