right about here is when i first noticed that roxy's life bar thing was getting uncomfortably full.

bonding with the in-laws over video games, as you do.

roxy's coming home to some big changes. and i guess gable is here too, with his pants hanging ~dangerously low on his hips~ just like in the fanfics.

roxy: heya, what did i miss?

joaquin: we've got a granddaughter! and a kitten!

roxy: listen, sweetheart. love is like chess.

reuben: for some reason, i get the feeling if we were playing 'don't wake the llama' you would be saying love is like that too.

roxy: love is like many things, especially things that are fun for the whole family!

reuben: okay, so then what are you saying? should i keep playing? should i forfeit? it would be one thing if she was saying she wanted to end things, but she's not! she says that she's sorry, that she loves me, but how do i know that's true?

roxy: you don't. all you know is what you know. and that has to be enough for you to make your next move because that's all you've got.

reuben: ...

roxy: darling, if you knew with one hundred percent certainty what she was thinking and feeling, then love wouldn't be love. or like chess!

reuben: but what happens if i'm bad at chess? or love?

roxy: then you have to decide whether you want to risk losing...although you shouldn't be too down on yourself, reuben. you're not all that bad at chess.

reuben: not really the most pertinent concern for me right now, but thanks mom.
