The Matrix (1999)
It is no longer a question of imitation, nor duplication, nor even parody. It is a question of substituting the signs of the real for the real, that is to say of an operation of deterring every real process via its operational double, a programmatic, metastable, perfectly descriptive machine that offers all the signs of the real and shortcircuits all its vicissitudes.
Jean Baudrillard, Simulacra and Simulation
The transition from signs that dissimulate something to signs that dissimulate that there is nothing marks a decisive turning point. The first reflects a theology of truth and secrecy (to which the notion of ideology still belongs). The second inaugurates the era of simulacra and of simulation, in which there is no longer a God to recognize his own, no longer a Last judgment to separate the false from the true, the real from its artificial resurrection, as everything is already dead and resurrected in advance. When the real is no longer what it was, nostalgia assumes its full meaning. There is a plethora of myths of origin and of signs of reality - a plethora of truth, of secondary objectivity, and authenticity. Escalation of the true, of lived experience, resurrection of the figurative where the object and substance have disappeared. Panic-stricken production of the real and of the referential, parallel to and greater than the panic of material production: this is how simulation appears in the phase that concerns us - a strategy of the real, of the neoreal and the hyperreal that everywhere is the double of a strategy of deterrence.

simulacra
Hi, I don't know if you explained it anywhere, but what's the difference between the tag crash and crash (baudrillard)? Have a nice day!
hello, yes i've explained it to a few other anons in the past, but i'm always glad to talk about it!
#crash refers to the Accident in itself: the damage done to the vehicle and the body, the consequent effects (injuries, medical procedures, recovery), and the general aesthetic of a crash (blood, broken glass, disarray, chaos). you could say it has an objective use
#crash (baudrillard) refers to a chapter in french philosopher Jean Baudrillard's seminal work Simulacra and Simulation where he analyzes Ballard's novel. basically he points out the capacity of the body to transcend sex when it is opened, altered and/or modified, creating artificial openings that can serve as beyond-sexual organs; i also consider machines (cars especially) as capable bodies in that sense. this intellectual load is what makes the difference
additionally, #symphorophilia refers to the feeling of thrill induced by an accident or natural disaster of any kind
they can overlap, of course
“There is no more hope for meaning. And without a doubt this is a good thing: meaning is mortal. Appearances, they, are immortal, invulnerable to the nihilism. This is where seduction begins.”
― Jean Baudrillard
