Today's TV broadcast of “Ghibli wo Utau” Concert Vol.#2 has been uploaded to Bilibili so we can finally watch Kalafina's performance!!

Oh wow!! I did not expect to love this so much. Was not a huge fan of the original version to be honest but I immediately fell in love with Kalafina's rendition. Feels so nostalgic. Kinda reminiscent of some old YK songs... Love how the solo parts really puts a spotlight on what they have achieved as solo artists. The section reflects their individual singing styles so well without relying too heavily on their traditional "Kalafina-voices" (not sure if this makes sense XD). Makes me even more desperate to hear them sing self-covers of their solo work during their Kalafina concerts. Hopefully they will start introducing those one day!! But of course I also adore the sections where their voices come together. When they are singing "wasurenaide", I cannot help but tear up, they sound so beautiful together, gorgeous harmony!! Everything that follows after that is just *chef's kiss* Let me just listen to this forever and ever. So happy to have my girls back.

My thoughts: All right, here we go. I've been quite honest about not liking the original song very much. There's something about it that doesn't appeal to me but I can't quite pinpoint what it is. For all intents and purposes, this is the sort of music I typically like but weirdly enough, something is missing from the original song. Maybe the verses aren't melodic enough for my taste or I guess I am just not into the melody as a whole? The original singer also doesn't do it for me unfortunately... Then again, I might just not be a big fan of the rather simple and more intimate structure of the song...who knows? Needless to say, despite some minor reservations, I was still super hyped to hear Kalafina's version because there's no denying that this is a solid match for their style and I was curious what they would do with it.

Having listened to the full version now, I must say, I am completely smitten and utterly in love. I can't help but be a little emotional right now since this is a truly special moment🥹. First new song in almost 10 years and even though it is "just a cover", I still consider this a proper release, after all, it's new music from my girls. I feel so blessed right now.

Most of my doubts already disappeared when we got the "short movie" but the full version further cemented my love for Kalafina's cover of the song. Already adore this version so much more than the original!! Satoshi Takebe has come up with an incredibly charming musical arrangement that elevates the original composition, there's much more depth to it and it perfectly fits Kalafina's image. I could listen to just the instrumental parts forever, they are so beautiful.

As for the vocals, the first verse and chorus are honestly flawless😍. No notes! 100000/10!!! Their vocals wonderfully encapsulate the whimsical and gentle vibes of the song. And I really dig the lower register in the first chorus! Huge shout-out to Keiko whose vocals are a true revelation, especially in verse 1. I am a sucker for her lower register as much as the next person but I knew she wouldn't use her super deep and dark voice for something like this. I kinda expected her to go for the usual overly cutesy type of singing but this is so much more refined than what we used to get from her in the past. Yes, there's some definitive cuteness in her voice but it's not happening at the expense of her vocal integrity. It's honestly so perfect, she really hit the spot there for me!! I also really enjoy what Hikaru is doing in verse 1, her lines are so gentle and sweet. Not overbearing at all. I am still not a huge fan of that one short section in verse 2 where Hikaru is singing in a fiercer style, her vocals are a bit too strong for my liking at the end. I understand what they are going for of course, this is clearly on purpose since they want to build momentum towards the end of each verse when it transitions to the chorus. Wakana's vocals in verse 1 are also not as gentle as Keiko's or Hikaru's because she is the one singing the part leading up to the chorus. But I guess with Wakana's voice it works, I love how she sounds here, especially since her voice is also the most prominent in the chorus so it's a more fluid transition...Other than that, verse 2 is super lovely too, particularly when their voices are overlapping. While the first chorus is a bit more somber (in a good way!) due to the lower register, the second chorus definitely packs a punch and hits me right in the feels. And then we have those gorgeous instrumentals leading right up to the final section which focuses almost entirely on the girls' vocals, a really nice way to end the song😍(although I will say that I probably would have done a grander chorus rather than an intimate one for the finish line but that's just personal preference).

Another thing I really appreciate about this is that the girls didn't simply default back to their usual Kalafina style of singing. They incorporated their individual style to highlight what they had achieved as solo artists throughout the past few years and I think that's great. The switch between the singing style in the verses and chorus is a lovely nod to both their current solo work as well as their old-school harmony work in Kalafina.

Today's TV broadcast of “Ghibli wo Utau” Concert Vol.#2 has been uploaded to Bilibili so we can finally watch Kalafina's performance!!

Waaahhhh! Was so excited to finally hear a proper live version of this!! First verse and chorus are to die for (Hikaru's facial expressions when she starts singing are so freaking cute)!! Still not 100% onboard with the last part of the second verse and the 2nd chorus but they are growing on me. Something sounds off (and/or lacking) with the instruments though. It also feels a bit rushed but maybe that's just my personal perception...? The final chorus definitely sounds better live and I am starting to really like it. Can't wait to listen to this many more times. On a side note, the accordion surprisingly didn't bother me too much so that's always a win.

「Arrietty’s Song」 🎞️Short Movie🎞️

To commemorate the release of the upcoming tribute album "Ghibli wo Utau Vol.#2", a series of 13 short movies has been filmed as is being released sequentially as we draw closer to February 25. The movie series is called 『Singing Ghibli Part 2 -The Story of Fuuto and Nagi-』 and you can watch all previous episodes HERE.

"Arrietty's Song" ~Beyond the Tunnel~ (Kalafina) With the question in her heart, "Is this world one?", Nagi steps into a dark tunnel deep in the forest. The small lantern she holds in her hand sways among her memories, dissolving into the darkness. The things she's lost and the feelings she still has quietly and beautifully regain their shape.

Thoughts: Oh my!! All my doubts disappeared just now! I am completely sold. Inject this into my veins! 100% ready for the full song (although I don't think there's much left of it XD - there's still a big chorus at the end from what I can?) Already love Kalafina's version of the song so much!! Beautiful musical arrangement that fits Kalafina perfectly and is much better than the original if you ask me. While I am still not a huge fan of that one short section where Hikaru is singing some lines in the second verse, all the other parts sound amazing!! That first verse and chorus (with the slightly lower register) in particular are honestly so perfect😍. Their vocals wonderfully encapsulate the whimsical and gentle vibes of the song. The movie is also super reminiscent of Kalafina's old PVs. Ahhhh, the nostalgia is real.

Initially, I didn't know what to think about this collab but I like what they did with it. I'd probably have preferred to have Kalafina sing this by themselves so everyone would get more singing time but this turned out super lovely anyway. No shade to Win Morisaki, he did a good job but I just wanted more Kalafina T_T *is greedy* Already loved Wakana's collaboration from two years ago so I knew I would instantly be into this new version but this sounded even better than I could have imagined. I am a super big fan of the song to begin with, especially the "lalala/huhuhu" sections, so to get a Kalafina cover of it feels like such a special treat. Almost started crying when Keiko started singing in the second verse🥹All of their solo parts were seriously so precious. But of course the scatting parts were my favourite! The ending was absolutely beautiful!!! 😍I am officially obsessed! Gonna listen to this on repeat.

“Ghibli wo Utau” Concert Vol.#2 Tokyo Live

To commemorate the release of the second tribute album, “Ghibli wo Utau/Singing Ghibli Vol.#2,” two special concerts are held in Tokyo as well as Osaka. Today, on March 13, the first concert took place at Tokyo International Forum Hall A. Kalafina was part of the line-up!!

Setlist (appearance in a total of 4 songs incl. collab/encore) Take everything with a grain of salt. Random order, will update as soon as I know more. Not 100% sure about that Win collab song. Initially I had seen a tweet that indicated they had performed "Inochi no Kioku" but now I feel like they probably sang "Itsumo Nando Demo" (which makes me super happy). Kalafina to Participate in Volume#2 Of The Special Studio Ghibli Tribute Album!

Back in 2023, a special #Studio Ghibli Tribute album produced by Satoshi Takebe was released. Wakana was among the 12 participating artists, she also took part in the "#Ghibli wo Utau Concert" which was held in March 2024 and was later streamed online. It has just been announced that a Volume#2 of this album will be released this year in November! It is once again produced by Satoshi Takebe. And there is a big surprise!! Among the 13 participating artists, Kalafina will be in charge of one of the tracks!! 💙🖤🤍

For me, when I hear Ghibli, the first thing that comes to mind is Wakana-chan. Haha, I am not kidding, it's 100% true. During my time in Kalafina, we were involved in a variety of anime productions which allowed us to travel overseas many times to perform our music. During that time, I felt that the popularity of Ghibli films both at home and abroad was a huge source of pride for Japan. But what really made a big impression on me was how Wakana-chan would talk about her love for everything Ghibli whenever she was asked questions related to anime. Of course, Ghibli films are fascinating to me as well. I have always wondered what it is about these films that make them so beloved among people of all generations, I don't really have an answer though...I think one of the charms of Ghibli films is that they make you ask yourself questions like this. They teach us the importance of taking your time to really think about things. I am very honored to have the opportunity to sing Ghibli music as part of this project. I hope many people will get to hear the harmony created by the three of us. Phew, so glad we finally get to reveal this announcement 💙🖤🤍

「Ghibli wo Utau Vol.#2」 Arrietty's Song Sneak Peek

After the snippet from the initial trailer and another brief glimpse at the recording, we now have a longer sneak peek at Kalafina's track "Arrietty's Song" from the upcoming album release “Ghibli wo Utau Vol.# 2”. In this tiny snippet, we finally get to hear a bit of the verse (with Hikaru in the lead). So far, I think the chorus part from the trailer is my favourite with everyone singing in a slightly lower register. The other chorus from the recording video and this snippet has Wakana singing in a noticeably higher register so her vocals stand out a bit more. Still trying to get used to the verses from the original song since they sound kinda bland to me. Hikaru's rendition (or at least what little we got from it so far) is unfortunately not blowing me away either🫣But I am still super hyped to hear the full version. Can't wait for next week. I know it sounds like I am not really liking it a lot but I am actually very excited and I believe I will end up loving it, especially once we get a live version *fingers crossed they will record one of the concerts*

Waaaaaahhh! Those "Wa-Ke-Hi" churros are too cute!! I definitely need to get them the next time I am in Japan. Hopefully I can make it to Fukuoka soon. It's been a while since I've last been there. "Danny Churros" also has a store in Tokyo so I might check that out in case I won't make it to Fukuoka any time in the near future. Their "Oshi Churros®️ / Letter Churros®️" service is so cool!!
