"Dad... I love you--- more than you'll ever know... You... You were my saving grace and I could never be more grateful to you... You've always been there for me, and now look at how I'm thanking you! I'm bleeding out and Esdeath will end up possessing my body forever... I wish could have been stonger, smarter, faster... I wish I could have been a better daughter... I wish... I... I'm so sorry, Dad..."
Knees buckling to the ground beside her, the tears behind his eyes burn with ferocity. His arms reach around her torso, holding her close to him as she breathes those words. This can’t be their good-bye.
Biting back his upset, Guren steadies his eyes to her. Dark bangs fall along his forehead as he looks to her from above. She’s not the one who should be apologizing. ❛ I should have been able to protect you, Rise. ❜ Yet, here he sits with her helpless in his arms. Another day in which he lacks the POWER to protect those he loves. He should have been stronger. It’s like the Catastrophe all over again. Always powerless. Never enough.
Biting his lower lip, Guren’s hands reach for her cursed gear. All he hopes is that she can heal. The hilt of the blade in hand, he hands it to her. ❛ Activate the curse. ❜ He refuses to lose another person he loves. Not today. They’re supposed to live to see tomorrow — every tomorrow.
