these events were something he attended out of obligation , not interest. henry knew what was expected of him , and that was what he found himself doing. if he hadn't made an appearance , it would've been noticed , and people would talk. he didn't need that. so , begrudgingly , he showed up. he didn't know who he expected to attend , but it definitely wasn't her. “ oh , hey , ” he greeted , a nod of acknowledgement in the other's direction. “ didn't think i'd see you here. ”

it was practically a tradition. every time there was some sort of event occurring , she found herself always getting ready with violet. they might've parted ways after they arrived , finding their respective dates , but they always showed up together , and it was something natalie looked forward to. “ you look great tonight, ” she complimented , doing a once over of her friend. “ you're gonna drive that man crazy in the best way. ”

it didn't surprise her that she'd run into mckinley. she knew that pretty much everyone was going to be in attendance , so she would've been more shocked if she hadn't stumbled upon her. natalie smiled politely , fine with faking niceties when it came to the other. it was just necessary. she loved stephan , and if she wanted things to work , she had to keep the claws retracted. “ oh , hey , ” she greeted her , gaze wandering around the collection of bodies before returning to mckinley. “ having a good time so far ? i assume you came with hero ? ” small talk , entirely casual because she was not interested in something meaningful.
