WIP Wednesday! @veeperpetua is threatening me to finish the siren V fic so here's some of that.
The water was warm as you stepped into the gentle waves and lowered yourself to sit beside the creature. For a few moments, the two of you just looked at each other. Up close, you could see that the monster's white eye had a crescent pupil, and that skin around it — that was visible through the skull's socket — was leathery and scarred. Their other eye was utterly human, and green like a deep forest, with wrinkles across the freckled skin. The tip of their nose was heart-shaped, and you resisted the urge to reach up and tap it with a finger. Their lacerated lips were set into an ambient smile, with deep laugh lines on either side of them. With all these signs of humanity and age, you wondered if the creature had always been this serpentine sea thing, or if they'd once been a regular person. What could have happened to them to turn them into this? You were pulled out of your thoughts by the creature's hand reaching for your face, and — despite yourself — you shuddered when cold fingers stroked along your jaw. To your surprise, the scales covering their hand weren't sharp, and instead felt soft, like a snake's underbelly. Even the claws didn't catch at your skin as the thumb brushed your lips.
