Chapter 4: Deep Sea Fairy Tale
Narrated by the guide.
Narrator: Sirengberg, Ninir Kingdom. In front of the DeVit statue by the beach.
Guide: Dorea, the girl from the deep sea who dreamed of land, joined her lover on the shore and lived happily ever after...
Boy: Do Mr. Blue Eyes and Miss Elf still live together in Sirenberg?
Girl: I wanna meet the pretty Elf lady!
Lady: What a romantic story. I’ve never heard anything so moving.
Man: You might not know, but this fairy tale was written based on the author’s own experiences.
Guide: I’m glad you all enjoyed the fairy tale that represents Sirenberg!
Narrator: After surviving the shipwreck, the young researcher began writing fairy tales about the sea.
Narrator: And soon, this classic fairy tale was born.
Narrator: They say the man would often go sailing alone, where he composed countless tales of the ocean.
Narrator: The most popular of them all was the Water Elf series, which ended up being representative of Sirenberg.
Children: What happened after that?
Adult Tourist: The story is over, pal. There’s no “after.”
Girl: Is Mr. Blue Eyes really Mr. DeVit? But Mr. DeVit didn’t live happily ever after with his true love!
Boy: Mr. DeVit traveled so much. Shouldn’t he have run into Dorea again?
Girl: Yeah! So there’s definitely more to the story!
Narrator: The kids who hear the tale would often wish for the lovers to have a happy ending in real life like in the story.
Narrator: But what actually happened... I don’t know if the children would consider it a happy ending.
Narrator: One of the editions of the book of DeVit’s fairy tales came with an illustration that was as beautiful as a dream.
Narrator: It was of a girl with long, wavy hair, a light, misty dress with pearls on the hem, and a spiral seashell in her hair.
Narrator: The illustration was captioned “Dorea’s Dress.”
Narrator: Later, in a fashion tea party held in Wintermount, an anonymous design captured everyone’s attention.
Narrator: Even legendary designer Aphrodia lavished it with praise. The design looked just like that one illustration in the book.
Choose either “Did Dorea submit the design?” or “Why would it appear on a tea party?”
If “submit,” ...
You: Did Dorea submit the design?
If “appear,” ...
You: Why would the design appear at a fashion tea party?
--
Narrator: Unfortunately no one knows the answer.
Narrator: Mr. DeVit never returned home after setting sail one last time. His calendar was the only evidence of the day he left.
Narrator: Did the elderly Mr. DeVit meet the Water Elf he loved and choose to stay with her in the ocean forever?
Narrator: No one knows. All we know is that the fairy tale of the Water Elf will continue to be passed on for generations.
