Sir Nigel Gresley passes The Lake District - Cumbria. 4498 'Sir Nigel Gresley hauling a private charter for members of The Sir Nigel Gresley Locomotive Trust between Carlisle and Crewe yesterday afternoon. This was the first revenue run since a decade long and 10 million pound overhaul so rail enthusiasts and spotters were certainly out in force, especially along the Settle-Carlisle Railway on the northbound journey to Carlisle. This image was captured on the return leg back to Crewe with the locomotive at speed passing the distant Lake District mountains near Shap, including High Street, Kidsty Pike and High Raise. At this time of the day, the sun is often challenging on this side of the railway causing backlighting and awkward shadows. However, in this case I think it played to my advantage by creating a silhouetted profile of the distinctive A4 class steam locomotive. #sirnigelgresley #nigelgresley #4498nigelgresley #4498sirnigelgresley #westcoastmainline #lakedistrictnationalpark #lakedistrictnpa #unescoworldheritagesite #lakedistrict #lakelandphoto #igerscumbria #visitthelakes #thelakelanders #fromlakelandwithlove #steamtrain #steamlocomotive #ukrailscene #trainspotting #trainspotter #trainsofinstagram #kidstypike #highstreet https://www.instagram.com/p/Cd3duVhjhVv/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
