kitty is taller than her big sister omg
this also reminds me a loooot of how courtney had a big chunk of her plot revolve around a boy in tdi and tdas, the latter undoing her development even to pair her with a guy because god forbid she be independent. emma barely even was allowed a chance.
sometimes it can be tricky to decide what’s developing a character and what isn’t. a big hint in that is to take into consideration what they’ve been through that would change their personality, and whether it’s a crucial enough part of their character that they become unrecognizable without it.
noah started off in total drama island being a dick who didn’t compete in challenges or even try to be pleasant. he got eliminated and called out for this. it makes sense he would try a little harder in season 3 since he at least has someone to stick with. he’s still a nerd, he’s still judgmental of everyone else, hes still a gigantic snarker, but he knows how people play the game by now. this is character development. hell, him saying he wanted to actively try to win in tdrr, especially considering he’s a reality tv star now, that’s building onto that further!
the noah/emma plot lacks a big part of such development, which is progression. kitty talks about emma getting a boyfriend. that’s meant to be foreshadowing. and it would be cool if noah and emma became close over a period of time, maybe even started off as friends. instead, noah falls for her when she does...a physical act.
since when did noah decide to start appreciating agile people? it’s one thing to love her snarkiness and her work drive, but they played it like noah fell for her agility, because this was the catalyst. this is ooc because nowhere in previous seasons was there any indication noah now appreciated athleticism. he barely talked with her before. i can buy him gushing over the idea of falling in love, since it’s very likely he never has, but not this suddenly.
it’s hard to see what emma could bring out in noah, even, and vice versa. there’s not enough contrast. let’s look at aleheather. heather was faced with a new rival, who pushed her to be better, and eventually he became one of the few people to make her feel appreciated and even loved. alejandro appreciated her as a rival, as well- she was a good competition for such a perfect man. and bad s3 and s5 writing choices aside, gwen and duncan had similarities, but gwen’s level head contrasted duncan’s more reckless side and brought out his more friendly side at times as well.
emma hasn’t been developed enough yet so we see how she differs from noah in a way that makes this relationship particularly interesting. with more time and development, they could actually be like the concept gwuncan, bonding over their interests but being able to call out the other when they do something wrong or encourage the other to unlock some new side of themselves (not counting them enjoying being in love- any other relationship could do that).
tl;dr: while it makes sense for noah to want to win after his losses in his past seasons, the timing and poor contrast between him and emma makes their relationship seem ooc.
kitty: emma you broke up with jake three years ago! you should totally get a new boyfriend :)
emma: kitty we broke up because I'm gay, we've been through this
Emma doesn't need a boyfriend because she's gay
is it bad that i dislike noah/emma but i could see noah working an interesting interaction with kitty
“"I don't need a boyfriend I need a law degree”
they're gonna pair her with a rebellious boy who isn't very book smart and theyll hate each other which OBVIOUSLY means a forever romance :)))
