Today is the tenth anniversary of breaking my foot at Andy Goldenberg's 30th birthday party. I lived alone on the second floor of an apartment building. When I realized it was broken my first thought was, "Well, I can't wait to find out how this is all gonna work." It was one of the most profound spiritual lessons in my life. I learned to live in the moment, and that in order for me to go "there," I had to live in every step along the way. Taking a shower reminded me of all the physical movements a shower takes: stepping in (difficult to do with a broken foot); standing in the shower; washing my feet; getting out of the shower. Walking down stairs reminded me what it takes to, well, go down stairs. Over the period of a month I watched the swelling of my foot go down. I saw the green of my bruises evolve into my foot's natural color. I went from Ace bandages to a walking boot to, oh, was I grateful, my own shoe. I was grateful for every part of my recovery. I know I was injured during that time, but I don't remember the pain. I want to thank all of those who helped me get groceries and take me to the laundromat. The broken foot was a wonderful lesson, and I wouldn't have traded that experience for anything. #SitInIt #mindfulness #brokenfoot (at Los Angeles, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/BvimGkwgJBa/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1uud2y6e1oq3u
