Earn Your Library Lessons Badge!
Miss Alex and I had a great time hanging out with one of our local Boy Scout troops last week. The Scouts came to the library to get a lesson about how to find books - and thanks to Miss Alex, they had a great time doing it!
The Cub Scouts and I had fun designing book jackets and creating bookmarks. Goodie bags were given out to all Scouts and their siblings.

Turtle Talk with Jade
Did you know that St. Johns County is home to five protected species of turtles? Did you know that it’s our duty to share the beach with our turtle friends?
Miss Jade, an environmental specialist from St. Johns County Habitat Conservation, and her environmental buddy Joe visited Southeast last week to talk to us about our St. Augustine turtles and how we can share our beaches with them. She taught us about the five different protected species (loggerhead turtle, green turtle, leatherback turtle, Anastasia Island beach mouse, and gopher tortoise) and told us what to do if you spot a turtle nest on the beach.
We had lots of fun with Miss Jade - we even got to listen to the ocean through a conch shell!

Book Fiesta Bingo
How do you shout BINGO in French? LOTO! What about in Spanish? BINGO! Whether you call it "El día de los niños" (Children's Day) or "El día de los libros" (Book Day), April 30 was a great day to come to the library to play some multilingual picture bingo.
Everyone had to make their own bingo cards by gluing pictures of everyday objects and things onto standard bingo cards.
Miss Alex called the bingo and did a fantastic job of distinguishing between her French and Spanish accents.
Prizes included books from my book cart and candy from around the world. There were candy bars from Sweden, England, Germany, Italy, and Mexico and fruity candies from Japan and China.
Everyone went home with books and candy and had some fun on a rainy afternoon.

Wilderness Explorers at Storytime
Our last storytime of the spring season was a little wild! We read stories about exploring the wilderness, including...

We finished with a paper flower suncatcher craft. We made flower and nature designs with tissue paper, paper leaves, and ribbon on contact paper.

Counting Cheerios
Southeast Little Ones counted Cheerios in storytime this week. As they walked into storytime, each Little One received a baggie with their Cheerio necklaces and some extra Cheerios for snacking.
One little Ninja Turtle got to snacking right away!
We read the Cheerios Counting Book and Sandra Boynton's One, Two, Three on our big screen.
The scarf dance is one of the best parts of storytime for our Little Ones.

Lives Change @ Your Library!
Hooray for National Library Week! We celebrated at storytime this week with lots of books about libraries:

We made shiny collages out of old books and magazines. By recycling the books and magazines, we gave them new life. Lives really DO change at the library. How has the library changed your life?

National DEAR Day Is Going to the Dogs!
At Read to Rover this past weekend Southeast kids dropped everything and read to our very own Clifford!
In addition to reading stories to Clifford, kids also had the opportunity to decorate their own puppy dog. The puppies were collected and are now hanging in the Children's Department as part of our "Clever Canines" book display.
In honor of DEAR Day, I had some really cool prizes to give out - and lucky for all who attended Read to Rover, I had enough for everyone!
Read to Rover is truly an experience for the whole family - join us on Saturday, April 26 @ 11am when the dogs will enter the building once again.
