If I may, what exactly was the relationship between Vernon and Jack Worthington like? Did they get along or...?

Well, they weren't aware the other existed until they met sometime as young adults, with Vernon being a freshman in MU while Jack was on the precipice of making a name for himself. They never held any sort of envy or anger towards each other, Vernon specifically to Jack — especially after they came to a shared conclusion that their father was pretty much just an asshole all around. Jack welcomed his younger brother into the family and the company with open arms, with Vernon even rising the ranks to become one of Jack's top scarers at one point.

But from what we know about Jack in MaW S2, he's not as much of a family man as what this shared backstory with my OC is, and that's because underneath the veneer of brotherhood, Jack at best respected and at worst only tolerated his half-brother because he had potential to succeed — and he did. It's only because of that that Jack allowed Vernon to get close, close enough to be a second father figure to his son Johnny.

Vernon is oblivious to all of this, and thus treats Jack with the exact teasing and chaos only a younger brother could inflict, lol. I think if they met as babies this'd be them in a nutshell:
