Disney heronries meme, 'Belle'

Belle - something special about me that separates me from the others.

I know other people have this, but I have to think it is my faith, in a nutshell. It is what gives me my strength so that I can go on, facing another day, even when those days hold horrors and tragedies. It is what gives me my peace so that I can deal with those situations, during and after, and stay intact. It is what gives me my hope that things will get better, if not in this world, then in the next, so that I can keep that optimism I am known for. Most importantly, it gives me love, so that I am never alone, and so that I may share that love with others.

Message one thing you want to know about me meme, 'What is like to have fur?' (I Was always too shy to ask you that, I thought it may be too personal)

Well, as I have been shaved before, I can answer this question in an informed manner.

First off, it really doesn’t do much to keep me warm in winter. The cold seems to slice right through it, but in summer, ach, it is terrible. You know how when you get hot, you want to take off everything? Imagine having a thin, knit sweater on your entire body. It’s like that.

Second, it holds both scents and water, so I have to work really hard to not smell like sulfur all the time, and I hate getting wet. Swimming is fine, but rain? Getting dropped unexpectedly into an ocean or a lake? No, thank you. It will take me forever to air dry. That being said, I do towel-dry after I shower. Blow-drying just makes me sweat. I do use two towels, though. And no, I do not shampoo or condition it.

Third, it holds sand, dirt, and other irritants. Not fun. I also have had lice once. Also not fun. It has gotten matted with dirt and filth before. It was kind of disgusting. And yes, if I skip showers enough, it gets oily and I look gross.

Fourth, when I get cold or startled, it fluffs up. Ever get chill bumps when you’re scared or cold? It’s the same thing happening to you, you just don’t have enough hair to make it visible. I end up looking like a pom pom.

Fifth, my tactile senses are a bit dulled. I can feel pressure, usually, but not often texture. For example, many people have a favorite article of clothing because it is soft. I can’t feel that softness. I can tell if a material is particularly rough or scratchy, though, because it rubs and scratches at my fur and gets at the skin underneath. I’m more sensitive (or perhaps normally-sensitive, but it’s more for me since I have fur almost everywhere) in the places where I don’t have fur or have less fur. The tips of my ears, for example, are sensitive because there is less fur. And, of course, the bottoms of my feet and palms of my hands are furless, as are my lips.

I think that just about covers the basics of having fur! And don’t worry, it is not too personal.
