I keep bumping into someone who is no longer here.

Everywhere I look, I keep finding little clues. Incomplete notes at the back of PDFs. Secondhand stories that can only be connected in hindsight. Impromptu banter in a video with 100 views.

I am an outsider, so the grief doesn't belong to me. I sometimes need to think for a while to pick the correct emotion for a given situation, but I'm sure that sadness doesn't fit here. Am I frustrated? Intrigued? Confused? I have known so few people that I have no experience to inform me about what to do here. Should I even be talking about this?

I am not a voyeur. I don't try to look, but I keep seeing signs that someone named Faeriedae was here. Should I look away? Am I respectful or tasteless for noticing her absence?

Isn't it ironic that someone who worked on a mystery game left so much evidence behind?

I'm sorry but I expected more of a 4 hours documentary about horror movies from the 80's. It was pretty just a bunch of people talking a little bit about a few movies from each years of the 80's, not a whole lot of depth in this. I wonder how the people who participate in the GoFundMe campaign for this felt when they saw the final product.

what I say: yeah some rpf ships are cool

what I mean: rpf is an extremely complex thing. like yeah I know these relationships probably didn't happen, but what if they did??? sometimes people go too far and that's weird, but when looking at rpf ships from an outside perspective years later, it give insight into what was happening that time regarding homophobia. were people supportive? were they homophobic? were people forced into hiding their true selves because they were scared of what was gonna happen? *cough cough* DAN AND PHIL *cough cough*. rpf, especially queer rpf, gives young queer children online who have probably never had any real exposure to queer media, an outlet to express their sexuality and sense of self. AND ANOTHER THING-

i was extremely bored and looked through my catalogue of games i havent played in a while

i ended up playing doom eternal

i now remember why i never finished doom eternal

doom eternal takes a franchise that, at least to me, is about run and gun, rip and tear, that shit, and says “fuck you, extremely limited ammo. btw heres some enemies that are immune to your backup plans.”

i cannot overstate just how much resource management is in that game

i would be fine with that if it werent for the fact that it feels like a game where your modus operandi is kill first ask questions never

the movement in that game is great, but again, it lends itself to gameplay like titanfall 2. shoot, kill, shoot more. not worrying about how much ammo you have

doom (2016) had plentiful resources, but the movement lended itself way better to that more conservative style

at least in doom (2016), you got unlimited ammo for your pistol. theres nothing like that in eternal though, if you run out of ammo, youre just fucked

i could also go on about the ui and the colorblind options but nobody should be subjected to my opinions on that

anyway this is very much just an “old man yells at cloud” moment about how i liked a 7 year old game more than a 3 year old game
