DIY - How to Plasterboard?

Are you planning to renovate or restore your residential area? If yes, then the best way is to use plasterboard. However, it is not that simple to learn the skill of installing plasterboard. In order to do the job yourself you should have a good understanding about the basics.

So, before you start to work on this tricky job go through our effective tips for safe installation of plasterboard.

Things you will need:

Screws

Bolster Chisel

Drill    

Spirit level

Tape measure

Plaster scrim tape

Craft knife

What you’ll need to do:

1. First of all, take accurate measurement of the sheets. It should be not more than 12mm when measured from the floor to ceiling height.

2. Now draw a cutting line on the ivory face of the plasterboard. Use a straight edge and craft knife to cut along the marked line.

3. Turn over the plasterboard surface and bend its end over itself. Then, mark a cut along the paper backing using a craft knife.  

4. While fitting the plasterboard on the frame make sure to get help from someone. It can be difficult for you to do it yourself. Now fit the bolster chisel at the bottom of the board using a wedge. Move a piece of wood under the board and press it down using your foot. Just press it hard against the ceiling. After it you can install the drywall with ivory facing outwards.

5.Use 32 mm screws at a gap of 150mm to install the plasterboard. Keep the screws at 15 mm distance from the edges. Repeat the process to install the entire board against the side walls and at the top of the doorway.

6. Use a screw plasterboard to install around a skirting board.

7. Use a plasterboard tape to cover the joints and get a smooth finish.
